A Special Way of Getting Along
Xu Youshu was busy admiring himself when Jiang Wu said that. Suddenly, he wondered if it had all been his imagination. After all, he really had been staring at that girl for a long time. It was entirely possible that Jiang Wu was right: he'd been looking at her, so she'd started scrutinizing him.
But they were young and cocky, and Xu Youshu wasn't about to admit defeat. He felt Jiang Wu was looking down on him, and that made him a little annoyed. He shot back, "Forget about me for now. What about you? Are you making this up? What story about first love? I've never heard of it. Besides, we're repeating the year. You had time to watch that movie? And who did you watch it with? Does Song Xiaonan know?"
When Jiang Wu heard Xu Youshu bring up Song Xiaonan, he quickly glanced around, as if afraid someone might overhear. He knew Song Xiaonan came to the library at lunchtime to help out, and he worried that she might hear them from wherever she was working. He hurriedly clapped a hand over Xu Youshu's mouth and whispered, "Never mind how I watched it. The movie's based on a book, okay? Do you want to read it or not? If not, forget it."
Xu Youshu remembered that Song Xiaonan might be somewhere in the library, and it wouldn't be good if she overheard them. He promptly shut his mouth and gestured for Jiang Wu to hurry up and find the book.
At last, the two of them quieted down and started searching through the stacks. They went from one row of shelves to the next, and after a while, Jiang Wu suddenly exclaimed excitedly, "I found it! It's right here."
