Hearing Wang Yue's sweet talk, Xia Jie's heart fluttered like a startled fawn. She was more than willing, of course, but then she remembered that she'd only just started working and hadn't accomplished anything yet. She bit her lip and said, conflicted, "I don't want to get married yet. I want to become a good police officer first, and then think about marriage."
Wang Yue was a little taken aback. He'd only just started pursuing her, and she was already thinking about getting married and having children. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. But as a seasoned ladies' man, he wasn't about to ruin the mood. He immediately reached out and clasped Xia Jie's little hand, saying tenderly, "Just remember that you're my little wife. You can decide when we get married."
Xia Jie's face turned even redder. She didn't pull her hand away. She'd always had Wang Yue on her mind, too; they'd just been apart for so many years that she felt a little awkward around him now.
But Xia Jie was also afraid Wang Yue might misunderstand, so she let him hold her hand as they walked together to the bus stop. Changing the subject as they went, she asked, "So what do you mainly do? I don't think police officers have a specialty in computers, do they?"
