Everyone knew there was no absolute good or evil, right or wrong. But knowing that was one thing. Facing it for real didn't make you lose your faith, exactly, but it could still leave you feeling as if your whole worldview had been shattered.
Yang Shu felt exactly that way. He was a law student, yet he'd discovered that the law couldn't protect citizens who followed it. He didn't know what to make of that.
Still, for someone studying law, this was part of Yang Shu's growth. No one else could go through it for him.
But Director Wang Shouyi's good mood was destined to be short-lived. He'd just dealt with one awful old man, and the other awful old man, Wang Jianguo, was still a problem.
By an astonishing coincidence, Wang Jianguo's situation blew up at just that moment.
Wang Jianguo had gone to the hospital pretending to be sick. He'd only meant to shake someone down, but, to his surprise, the doctors really did find something wrong with him. Even worse, the old man was psychologically fragile. Once he learned he was ill, his extreme fear caused his condition to deteriorate rapidly.
Wang Jianguo, who'd once been so full of himself, was now incontinent. Poor Li Dawei and Chen Xincheng, who'd been assigned to deal with the case, had no choice but to see it through. Li Dawei, of course, couldn't ask his mentor, Chen Xincheng, to look after the old man, so he had to do it himself.
By the time the station had finished dealing with the awful old man from the Sun family, Li Dawei had already spent several days tending to Wang Jianguo.
The reason was that none of Wang Jianguo's family wanted to look after him. It wasn't that every scoundrel's
