You've Offended Someone?
Wang Yue rode his bicycle with Zhao Xiaomai to the area near the Zhou family's house in Guangzhipian. Just as he was about to turn toward it, he spotted two people lurking at the mouth of an alley, watching the Zhou family's gate. He quickly stopped, frowning at them.
Zhao Xiaomai thought they had arrived. Once Wang Yue had stopped, she obediently hopped off the bike. Knowing they were almost at the Zhou home, she felt a little uneasy and couldn't decide which foot to move first.
But after waiting for quite a while, Zhao Xiaomai still didn't see Wang Yue push the bicycle forward. She followed his gaze and noticed two furtive figures at an alley entrance, watching a man and a woman in the distance. That clearly wasn't the sort of thing decent people did.
Zhao Xiaomai studied the pair, then the man and woman they were watching. She took a couple of steps toward Wang Yue and leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Are those two over there the Zhou family's children?"
Wang Yue caught the woman's scent so close beside him, but there was no time to tease her. He parked the bicycle against the wall, then told Zhao Xiaomai, "Hide around the corner. I'll go chase those two off. Be careful not to let them recognize you."
Zhao Xiaomai knew Wang Yue was making these arrangements to protect her, so the bad guys wouldn't remember her face and cause trouble if they ran into her again.
So Zhao Xiaomai obediently nodded and quickly moved farther away. She turned into an alley and picked a corner where light and shadow met, hiding in the darkness. Her slight figure stood in just the right spot to stay out of sight from where they
