"The thirteenth attempt. This will be the closest we've ever come to success."
While the Wildwood Church was busy changing the color of consciousness, elsewhere in Sain Underground City, the people of the Starfire Church were still fighting to conquer the Twin Gargoyles.
For some reason, even though this was already their thirteenth attempt, they did not feel exhausted from the depletion of their Mental Power. On the contrary, they seemed to grow more energized the longer they fought.
Theoretically, they should all have been utterly exhausted by now, constantly on the verge of being kicked out of Sain Underground City.
Looking around, the Starfire Knights, Hewei included, were covered in grime. Their original armor had long since been destroyed, leaving them to wear whatever scattered equipment pieces dropped by slain enemies. They looked no different from bandits, thugs, or even vagrants. In any other dungeon, they could probably pass for monsters based on appearance alone.
Yet every pair of eyes burned like fire, constantly radiating astonishing light. Their spirits pierced the sky like sharpened swords.
It was a strange state. How could anyone be both "mentally exhausted" and "mentally invigorated" at the same time?
And yet, the Starfire Knights had done exactly that.
This was certainly not something human effort could achieve. Mental Power lost was mental power lost, and recovering it inside a dungeon was far more difficult than usual.
So what exactly was happening?
Gong Qiying had not understood at first, so he began observing them constantly. Eventually, he discovered something strange.
As adventurers repeatedly died and revived, their minds would actually grow increasingly fatigued. When faced with the same sudden events, the Mental Power they could unleash would gradually diminish. That was when Sain Underground City would kick them out, though adventurers generally chose to leave
