Yu Prefecture, Soaring City, Xu Family Compound.

Yu Prefecture truly did not have many famous sights, and Soaring had only a scattering of messy little hills. Yet it had Yu Prefecture's sole Grade-A tourist attraction: the Xu Family Compound.

The weather was perfect today. In the early morning's beige sunlight, white walls and dark tiles framed the towering compound, while people streamed through its gates after having their tickets checked.

A beautiful long-haired Three Flower Cat lay lazily beside the main gate. Sunlight filtered through the treetops and over the eaves, painting a distinct line across the white wall and falling over the cat's body, making her look even more indolent. Even her eyes were half-lidded.

A young couple stood nearby, each holding a local specialty: salted dried rat.

"The guides say it's best to find a tour guide when you visit the Xu Family Compound. But lots of tour groups come here every day, so we can just wait for one and follow them in."

The girl gnawed on her salted dried rat as she spoke to the person beside her.

"Isn't it too early?"

"It's not early. The first tour groups might already be inside. Those people travel like special forces—they get up earlier than chickens."
