But Servants had sharp ears and exceptional physical abilities. Even though Mash deliberately lowered her voice, there was no way her words could escape Boudica's ears.
"That is correct. Boudica—was the former queen of the island of Britain."
Though gentle by nature, Boudica enunciated the word "Britain" with particular clarity and force.
She truly was a compassionate woman, but even clay figures had their limits. Naturally, Boudica could never use the name of a defeated nation to refer to "Britain"—never!
As mentioned before, "Britannia" was the Ancient Roman name for Britain. After Emperor Nero led her armies to conquer the British Isles, "Britain" became "Britannia." Thus, to the British, "Britannia" was a name laden with considerable humiliation.
The Roman Empire's ruthless invasion had even led to her daughters being violated. Unable to endure it any longer, Boudica ultimately led the kings in rebellion, only to be defeated and killed beneath Emperor Nero's forces.
In short, it would not be an exaggeration to call Nero Boudica's lifelong enemy. Though the Nero of this time could not possibly know that history, Boudica had been summoned to Rome as a Servant. She was not as ignorant of it as Nero was.
Even knowing all that, Boudica had still chosen to stand alongside her mortal enemy?
