A Sky-Spanning Curtain

Before long, Chen Shouyi had arrived in the capital.

"Chief Chen, please come with me!" said a staff member who had been waiting outside.

Chen Shouyi nodded. Following the staff member, he soon arrived at a conference room furnished with sofas.

Quite a few people were inside. Besides several senior officials from the Great Xia Nation, there were many scholars. Some were seated, while others stood to one side. A heavy atmosphere hung in the air.

"Chief Chen, you're here. Thanks for the effort. Please, sit!" The president stood as Chen Shouyi entered. Everyone else rose as well, casting reverent looks his way.

The president had called only ten minutes ago, yet ten minutes later Chen Shouyi had already traveled from Zhonghai to the capital and arrived at this office. Such speed was simply astounding.

"Has something happened?" Without any unnecessary pleasantries, and with none needed in this atmosphere, Chen Shouyi found a seat and sat down.

"The situation is worse than we predicted. Our Solar System has been sealed off by Tam... I can't explain the details clearly right now. Take a look at the documents." The president sounded utterly exhausted. He gestured to a staff member in the office, who nodded and immediately brought the documents over to Chen Shouyi.

Chen Shouyi took them and quickly flipped through the pages. In just a few seconds, he had finished reading the hundreds of pages.

"I never imagined there was a method like this. We all underestimated Tam." He sighed, then furrowed his brows, lost in thought.

By rights, he should have discovered something this momentous the last time he entered Insight, or at least retained some general impression of it. But in truth, he had no memory of it at all, as if it were nothing worth caring about.
