Vader had gotten what he wanted.
He had seen what lay "behind the door."
And he had realized that the Fourth Wallfacer's plan had never been about making all of humanity evolve again!
He had deceived all of humanity!
He had deceived the United Nations and the Planetary Defense Council!
He had even deceived those "greedy" high-ranking officials.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"
"Urgh—!"
"You—urgh—madman!"
The lights in the metal corridor were still bright.
The only difference was that Vader had completely lost his reason. He looked as if he'd seen something "horrifying," and he kept throwing up, even though there was nothing left in his stomach.
Eventually, he had nothing left to bring up.
There was only bile, yet Vader still felt his stomach convulsing. Whenever he recalled the "thing" he'd seen behind that metal door, he couldn't stop himself from retching.
It was hard to imagine that Vader, who had always been utterly rational and ruthless, and who would use any means necessary to achieve his goals at any cost, could end up like this.
After he'd finished throwing up, Vader looked completely drained. He didn't care that he was sitting in the filth he'd just brought up. He dropped onto it, leaning against the cold metal wall, his eyes unfocused, blank, empty.
"Want a cigarette?" Alvin offered him one, saying calmly, "Maybe the taste of nicotine will make you feel a little better."
This time, Vader didn't refuse.
He didn't usually like smoking, but now he accepted without hesitation and clamped the cigarette between his pale lips.
Snap!
A flame sprang up at Alvin's fingertip.
Vader still seemed to be in a state of "terror." Stiffly craning his neck, he lit the cigarette between his lips and took a deep drag, coughing violently as the smoke choked him.
Cough,
