Han Fen had endured plenty of torment in Golden Peng Fortress. Although she had the knack for turning pain into the pleasure she wanted, the damage had still been real. When the pleasure faded, the pain remained.
She lay on her side on the couch like a baby, a blanket draped over her. She looked utterly listless, with no pillow beneath her head. Her head hung over the edge of the couch, upside down as she faced the little boy not far away.
It was a strange posture. Her body bent in several places, like a half-dead snake. Shangguan Cheng was frightened. He had been away from Stone Fortress for less than three days, yet everyone he met was different from the people back home. This woman in front of him was the strangest of all. His little heart simply couldn't take so many changes.
He backed away, tugging on the thin cord tied around his wrist. It was seven or eight feet long, with the other end tied to Han Fen's left wrist. She didn't put any strength into her arm; when Shangguan Cheng pulled, it simply dangled over the edge of the couch.
Her eyes didn't blink. She had held the same pose for nearly a quarter of an hour. A thought suddenly occurred to Shangguan Cheng. "Are you dead?"
The strange woman didn't respond. Shangguan Cheng grew afraid. With no father or other adults nearby, he was much more timid. He stood rooted to the spot for a while, then began to take action. He tried to undo the knot around his wrist with one hand, but couldn't manage it. He tried biting it, but his teeth hadn't all grown in. All he accomplished was getting it wet with saliva; it did nothing to free him.
