Background / History
Konoha was founded by Hashirama Senju, the “God of Ninja,” following the Warring States period. Hashirama is credited with founding the village and establishing the Will of Fire as its guiding legacy. Tobirama Senju later formalized ninja education through the Ninja Academy and laid the foundations of Konoha’s research system. 411 419
Following the Nine-Tails’ Rampage, Konoha suffered severe personnel and property losses, while the death of Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze created a leadership crisis. The village also faced unrest among its clans, scrutiny of the Uchiha, and pressure from the other great ninja villages. 2 3
Hiruzen Sarutobi subsequently endorsed Orochimaru as the Fifth Hokage. The proclamation was signed by Council Elders Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu, and Orochimaru’s succession initially restored morale among shinobi who valued his emphasis on talent, results, and promotion by merit. 6

| Ninja Academy | Trains Konoha’s next generation of shinobi and serves as a meeting point for children from the village’s major clans. 34 443 |
| Science Squad | Konoha’s research organization, responsible for major technological, medical, barrier, and chakra-engineering projects. 232 261 |
| Emergency High-Response Assault Team | An elite unit led by Kakashi Hatake and tasked with responding to high-level threats connected to Freedom International and Madara. 209 261 284 |
| Security Officer system | A security force incorporating workers, private ninja, and recruited personnel under Konoha-led operations. 64 |
Economy and Security
Konoha’s traditional income came from allocations by the Land of Fire’s Daimyo and from commissions completed by village shinobi, with the village taking a share of mission payments. 2
Under Orochimaru’s administration, Konoha began reshaping this model through the Joint Security Company. The proposal invited major Land of Fire merchants to finance a Konoha-led system intended to stabilize trade routes, suppress banditry, and provide security services on a larger scale than ordinary missions. 13 26
The Joint Security Plan expanded Konoha’s influence beyond the village itself:
- Private ninja and non-core clan members could be absorbed into Konoha’s broader security structure. 64
- Workers organized under Konoha leadership became Security Officers, identifiable by white armbands marked “Security.” 64
- Konoha-led operations dismantled local gangs and criminal forces through a combination of armed workers and basic ninja techniques. 64
- The village used the system to recruit rogue ninja by offering stable work, advancement opportunities, and access to refined major-village ninjutsu. 64
- Corruption in security-fee collection led Orochimaru to establish a specialized planning group for fund allocation and order a crackdown on local criminal forces. 56
Konoha also pursued agricultural reform through Yamato’s Wood Release. His abilities were used to cultivate crops for an orphanage and later demonstrated to grain merchants as a means of producing high-yield seeds. 43 89
Technology and Infrastructure
Science Squad
The Science Squad is one of Konoha’s most strategically important institutions. Its base is heavily fortified, reportedly capable of withstanding a Tailed Beast Bomb, and stores critical technical data needed to rebuild Konoha even if the village itself is destroyed. 261
Its projects include:
- Curse limbs and advanced prosthetics capable of storing and releasing preset ninjutsu. 232 313
- Chakra Storage Crystals and an Intelligent Calculation Crystal Computer. 232
- The Intelligent Central Control Core for Chakra Energy, developed through massive chakra accumulation and transfer. 232
- A proposed Tailed Beast-powered chakra supply system connected to Konoha’s Barrier Formation. 233
Barrier Network
Konoha began rebuilding its barrier system into a large-scale, dynamically encrypted formation controlled by the Intelligent Central Control Core. The planned barrier can suppress unauthorized ninjutsu, restrict ninjutsu-based information transmission, detect abnormal chakra activity, and hinder Space-Time Ninjutsu and Summoning Jutsu. 261
The related Thorough Realm Plan records public movement and chakra characteristics across Konoha, while residential barriers are intended to preserve privacy within private homes. Electronic cameras are also deployed in public areas under Konoha and United Security jurisdiction. 320
Mapping and Construction
- Hyuga clan members used the Byakugan to survey the Land of Fire and produce detailed three-dimensional projection maps. 60
- Remote-sensing satellites later enabled Konoha to create three-dimensional maps of the wider ninja world. 261
- Konoha employs Engineering Ninjutsu, new materials, and modern construction methods to rebuild and expand rapidly. 47 413
- After Madara’s attack devastated much of the village, Konoha preserved the Hokage Building and Hokage Rock while reconstructing surrounding districts. 413
Society
Konoha’s formal ninja status is highly valued. Recruits receive a ninja number, forehead protector, Security Pass, medical benefits, merit-based rewards, and access to ninjutsu research institutions and engineering training. 209
The village’s population includes long-established ninja clans, new residents, security personnel, refugees, and integrated auxiliary groups. This has also produced social divisions:
- “Old Konoha natives” identify themselves as people born and raised in the village and may look down on later arrivals. 519
- Some older residents resent newcomers competing for places in Konoha’s Ninja Academy. 519
- The Uchiha, Senju, and Hyuga are regarded as Konoha’s three great noble clans. 443
- The Ninja Cat Clan received compensation and real-estate opportunities when development reached its former secluded territory; it also abandoned its previous black-market arms dealings under Konoha’s security policies. 211
Relationships
- Land of Fire Daimyo — Konoha receives traditional state funding from the Daimyo, but its expansion through the Joint Security Company erodes the Daimyo government’s authority. 2 182
- Major merchants of the Land of Fire — Financial partners in the Joint Security Company, agricultural reform, construction projects, and Konoha-backed commercial development. 13 26 89
- United Security — Konoha’s wider security and political framework, positioned against Freedom International. 329 430
- Amegakure — Became economically integrated with Konoha’s development plans; its ninja study the Will of Fire and recognize Konoha’s Hokage as a leader. 303
- Iwagakure — Konoha attempted to hire Iwagakure through the Joint Security Company for canal construction near the Tea Peninsula. 130
- Freedom International — A rival bloc integrating Iwagakure, Sunagakure, Kumogakure, and Kirigakure in response to Konoha’s influence. 181 263 304
- Iron Country — Konoha pressured the Iron Country over restrictions on civilians leaving for safer regions, leading its leadership to consider balancing Konoha against Freedom International. 332 333
