Background / History
Clark grew up on Jonathan and Martha Kent's farm as Jupiter's younger brother. Though he possessed superhuman abilities, he was expected to work the fields and learn responsibility before pursuing heroism. He resented living in Jupiter's shadow, believing that a battle suit was all he needed to become a hero; Jonathan instead taught him that a hero does not abandon the tool in his hand. 298
When the Kents moved to Metropolis, Jupiter arranged Clark's admission to an Ivy League school. Clark learned of the enormous reach of the Kent Group, whose superhero operations extended across two hundred countries, and became even more determined to follow his brother's example. 298 299
Mark tested Clark's resolve by taking him to Mount Everest for a brutal sparring session. Clark was badly injured and returned to Kent Tower near death, but interpreted the experience as Jupiter's test and resolved to train harder. 299 300
Jupiter later required Clark to attend school, conceal his identity and powers, and learn to interact with ordinary people before becoming a public hero. He gave Clark a fingerprint-locked transformation watch that deploys a superhero suit and obscures his face. 301
Clark's outlook was challenged by Thrag, who repeatedly argued that Kryptonians were superior to humans. After Thrag used Clark as an instrument of destruction against civilians, Clark rejected that philosophy. Jupiter rescued him and taught him to restrain his strength while living in a world far more fragile than himself. 302 303
Clark began using his abilities to protect people, notably saving Emily from a mugging. He later pursued a relationship with her, eventually becoming an elite lawyer, marrying her, and starting a family. 303 304 By the family banquet, he planned to remain with his family until his children were older, then explore the universe with Mark. 332
Appearance
Clark is a strong, youthful man with a notably athletic build. In civilian life, he uses glasses and an ordinary student persona to conceal his identity. 298 302
- Dark blue, form-fitting superhero suit bearing an “S” emblem for “Super.” 301
- Slicked-back hair when suited up. 301
- Wears a transformation watch on his left wrist. 301
- Uses glasses while attending school as Clark Kent. 302
Personality
Clark is earnest, idealistic, and intensely eager to prove himself worthy of being a hero. His desire to gain Jupiter's approval initially makes him reckless; after Mark's training nearly kills him, he sees hardship as necessary preparation rather than a reason to retreat. 298 300
Despite doubts about whether Kryptonians and humans can coexist, Clark ultimately believes the strong should protect the weak. He rejects Thrag's contempt for humanity and learns that his own power requires restraint. 301 303
Clark also values an identity separate from Jupiter's reputation. He hides his family connection from Emily because he wants her feelings to be for him rather than for Jupiter's younger brother or a Kent Group director. 304
Abilities & Skills
Kryptonian Physiology
Clark possesses the powers and senses of a Kryptonian, strengthened by Earth's sunlight.
- Superhuman strength, speed, durability, and flight. 298 301
- Superhuman hearing, vision, and sensory perception. 300 302
- Heat Vision, though Mark judged it insufficiently powerful during Clark's early training. 299
- Rapid healing; he recovered from near-fatal injuries in a Kryptonian recovery pod powered by concentrated sunlight. 303
- His body is hard enough to survive collisions that destroy vehicles, making careful restraint essential around ordinary people. 303
Hero Training
Clark received combat instruction from Mark and guidance from Jupiter.
- Continued training after his defeat at Mount Everest. 299 301
- Learns to moderate his strength to avoid harming people and damaging the world around him. 303
- Demonstrated effective intervention against armed muggers, breaking their limbs at speeds beyond normal human perception. 303
Academic Ability
Clark is described as having a “super-brain,” making conventional coursework comparatively easy for him. Jupiter nevertheless considers social interaction and integration with humanity more important to Clark's development. 301
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Transformation watch — Fingerprint-locked device that deploys Clark's superhero suit; functions as an ordinary watch when inactive. 301

- Kryptonian recovery pod — Sunlight-powered medical pod used to restore Clark after severe injuries. 303
