On top of that, plenty of mutant monsters could climb walls. Several geckos had already scrambled up ahead of the rest.
I gritted my teeth, glanced at the locusts in the sky, then turned and ran that way.
There was no time to think. Every extra second we held out counted. The distant horde of mutant monsters had already dwindled by more than half, leaving only
a small portion still making their way
over here. If we could hold out for another ten minutes, we should be able to defend the wall!
I pushed off hard, accelerating as I charged straight ahead. At some point, the rain had started
falling again.
The fine drizzle pattered against my face, carrying a hint of cold. I had kept first gear running the entire time. By now, I had already
held it for over three minutes, yet
I still didn't feel anywhere near my limit. It looked like first gear was viable for a battle of attrition.
But this wasn't the time to think about that.
I rushed over. A few hundred meters only took me five or six seconds. The wind swept my short hair
back, tugging at it slightly.
I drew the long blade at my waist. The instant I reached a gecko's side, its tongue shot out.
Like a cannonball!
But to me, it wasn't particularly fast. And since geckos had such a limited way of attacking,
it was pretty easy to predict!
I twisted at the waist, dodged sideways, then raised my blade and chopped down at that long tongue!
Whoosh!
Sssht!
"Aaaaargh!"
With a scream, the gecko snapped its gaze toward me. For an instant, reflected in its eyes, I saw not just
my own figure, but the cold gleam in my hand.
Squelch!
Kiku Ichimonji plunged straight
