I wiped away my tears and turned to head downstairs.

I really, truly longed for power.

I didn't need to save the world. I just wanted to save the people right in front of me.

With my backpack on, I suddenly felt how heavy it was.

I used to complain about monsters and all the things they could do... but now, I desperately wished I had those powers too,

so I could protect the people I wanted to

protect.

After going downstairs, I turned and headed into the distance. When I looked back, the supermarket was already far, far away. I could barely make out its

shadow.

The horizon was just beginning to brighten. Carrying the heavy ashes of three girls on my back, I set out west again.

Big Kukri had broken, and I'd left my two little knives behind. I hadn't brought them with me.

My backpack was packed full of food, but I probably wouldn't get far today.

The sun was about to rise. That kind of scorching heat was more than most people could endure. Even I couldn't take being in the sun for several
