The Bug Being Hunted

I braced myself against the seat and let go with my feet.

I released the steering wheel, flipped up from the seat, and climbed straight out through the sunroof. Standing on the roof, I looked behind me.

Through the faint sandstorm, that long trail was already very close.

It was only about a hundred meters away. I glanced behind me and made sure there was nothing sticking up that might stop the car from moving smoothly along the road. Then I reached into my pocket and pulled

out a coin. At the same time, I couldn't help thinking...

It really was a pain to be alone. Right now, I wished Bai Chi were here. At least he could drive while I focused on dealing with this thing.

After several hours of racing along, I gradually figured out what was beneath the sand.

From end to end, it was nearly six hundred meters long. This had to be... one creature.

In other words, this entire length belonged to a single sandworm. Unless something unexpected happened, this had to be the lord of this desert, right?

But compared to it, the thing was far more terrifying than that spider I'd encountered before.

It was enormous, nearly six hundred meters long. I couldn't see how thick its body was, but the trail on the sand was several meters wide. I wouldn't be surprised if its body underneath was more than ten meters across.

If an ordinary person ran into this thing, they'd probably just have to wait to die, right?

The car had already used up more than two-thirds of its fuel, so it probably wouldn't last much longer. Yet the worm clearly wasn't using its full speed to chase me. It just kept following at a leisurely pace, even when I was
