Background and History
Hogwarts Headmaster
Dumbledore served as Hogwarts’ headmaster during Adam Reed’s early years at the school. Nicolas Flamel considered him a trusted associate and directed Adam to deliver a letter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to Dumbledore; Flamel also expected Dumbledore to guide Adam in learning how to activate a Portkey. 7
He was notably permissive toward students he trusted. When Adam presented the damaged diary of Tom Riddle, Dumbledore identified it as a Horcrux and explained that its creation required murder. After learning that Adam had captured rather than killed the Basilisk, he allowed Adam to keep it, rewarded Hufflepuff for uncovering the Chamber of Secrets incident, and provided books on Parseltongue and Mermish. 72
Dumbledore also recruited Newt Scamander to teach Care of Magical Creatures for a semester and initially intended to assign Adam as Newt’s assistant, believing their shared interest in magical creatures would make them compatible. 83
Grindelwald and the Horcrux hunt
Dumbledore kept Gellert Grindelwald under close watch at Hogwarts, initially presenting him to Adam as a “diviner friend.” Their reunion was tense, and Dumbledore made clear that Grindelwald would remain under the observation of himself and Fawkes. 150 186
As Voldemort’s Horcruxes came to light, Dumbledore worked with Adam to recover and secure them. Adam returned Salazar Slytherin’s locket, Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, and the Resurrection Stone to him; after using the Stone, Dumbledore became markedly quieter and more introspective. 189
He later sought Adam’s help concerning the Horcrux within Harry Potter. Adam’s soul-swapping experiment showed that the method could only address inanimate Horcrux vessels, not Harry himself. Dumbledore therefore proposed using the Elder Wand as an additional safeguard against Voldemort. 244
Departure and succession
During Dolores Umbridge’s takeover of Hogwarts, Dumbledore left the headmastership rather than remain constrained by the Ministry. Adam challenged this decision, arguing that Dumbledore had allowed the Ministry to endanger students by surrendering control of the school. 205 206
Dumbledore eventually accepted Adam’s proposal to succeed him. Hogwarts’ ancient covenants barred students from becoming headmaster, so Adam graduated early before formally receiving the position. 206 207
Upon transferring the office, Dumbledore taught Adam that the headmaster could command Hogwarts’ portraits and ghosts, manage protective enchantments such as Anti-Apparition and Unplottability, and was responsible for the school’s staffing, students, and finances. 209
Return to teaching
After Voldemort’s defeat, Dumbledore initially declined Adam’s invitation to return to Hogwarts, preferring time with Ariana and Aberforth. He later accepted a Transfiguration post and became Head of the Transfiguration Teaching and Research Group, overseeing Transfiguration professors and instruction while preparing a successor. 270 271
Appearance
Dumbledore is an elderly wizard with white hair. 185 186
- His advanced age does not prevent him from undertaking demanding magical work. 417
- Adam’s Halloween fondant depicted him as a four-headed, chibi-style figure holding Fawkes. 118
Personality
Dumbledore values students who respect teachers, care for classmates, and retain enthusiasm for life. He insists that his fondness for such students is not favoritism toward any one house, and he is described as caring for Hogwarts students impartially. 150 186
His compassion can make him exceptionally trusting. He repeatedly gives Adam the benefit of the doubt, even when Adam’s conduct and ambitions concern Grindelwald. Grindelwald believes Dumbledore sees Adam’s friendliness while overlooking his more calculating traits. 72 193
Adam characterizes Dumbledore as extraordinarily self-confident, stubborn, and “arrogant”: Dumbledore restrains himself morally because he believes no one could stop him if he lost control. 202 His later choices also show exhaustion with conflict; after spending decades confronting Grindelwald and Voldemort, he seeks reconciliation with his family and a quieter role. 270
Abilities & Skills
Advanced spellcasting
Dumbledore is among the rare wizards capable of nonverbal and wandless magic. 69
- He produces a powerful Patronus capable of driving Dementors away from a Quidditch match. 123
- In a projected account of another timeline, he saves Harry from Inferi with the powerful fire spell Path of the Fire God. 363
- He can use Fawkes for rapid travel and dispatch the phoenix on missions. 138
Legilimency
Dumbledore is proficient in Legilimency, though Adam’s mind resists his attempts to read it. 72
- He relies on observation and intuition when direct mind-reading fails. 72
- His ability is significant enough that parents at Hogwarts’ meeting feared he might inspect their thoughts. 219
Horcrux expertise
Dumbledore recognizes Horcruxes and understands both their creation and destruction.
- Identified Tom Riddle’s diary as a Horcrux and explained that murder is required to create one. 72
- Recognized Basilisk venom as a means to destroy Horcruxes. 72
- Investigated Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes and devised contingencies for Harry’s connection to Voldemort. 186 244

Projected Timeline Depiction
The films viewed by the characters portray a darker timeline in which Dumbledore remains Hogwarts’ headmaster through Voldemort’s return. In that account, he searches for Horcruxes with Harry, is cursed after putting on the Resurrection Stone ring, and knowingly prepares for his own death as part of a plan involving Snape, Draco Malfoy, and the Elder Wand. 363 376
The projected Dumbledore is ultimately disarmed by Draco and killed by Snape on Voldemort’s orders. His death devastates Hogwarts and is mourned by students and staff raising lit wands into the sky. 364
