Background / History

Childhood and the Seven Kill Lineage

Tang Qijian lost his parents at seven. His twelve-year-old sister supported and raised him despite their poverty. Three years later, a prominent family’s young master forcibly abducted her; she bit her tongue and killed herself rather than endure humiliation 107.

A passing master discovered Tang Qijian’s sword talent and took him under his wing. Tang Qijian later killed the young master and destroyed the family that had enabled his crimes. The experience left him particularly hostile toward bullying and oppression 107.

He entered the Seven Kill lineage and cultivated the Seven Kill Sword Art. While his master was secluded at a critical stage of cultivation, Zhang Tao’s father—whom Tang Qijian addressed as Uncle-Master Zhang—taught him for one or two years 100 103.

Lianyang Academy Tournament

Du Meng knew Tang Qijian as one of Lianyang Academy’s outstanding Houtian martial artists and, according to Master Lianyang, the kingdom’s greatest sword talent in a thousand years. His mastery of the First Kill earned Du Meng’s sincere admiration 99.

Zhang Tao attempted to persuade Tang Qijian to punish Qin Shaofeng for defeating him. Tang Qijian instead found Qin Shaofeng agreeable and was disappointed by Zhang Tao’s conduct. After learning the truth, his anger turned toward Lu Qi, whose oppressive behavior reminded him of his sister’s fate 103 107.

Tang Qijian ultimately lost the tournament’s final match to Qin Shaofeng. His First Kill failed to penetrate Lightning Armor, but his subsequent display revealed the Second Kill and an initial understanding of the Third Kill. Referee Elder Old Man Li quickly announced the result to divert attention from talent that could make Tang Qijian a target for hostile academies 114 115 116 117.

Conflict with Zi Yueye

While hunting beasts to accumulate killing intent and sword energy, Tang Qijian encountered and killed a severely injured Spirit Vein Realm Medicine Beast. He consumed the mysterious pill it yielded, unaware that the beast was Zi Yueye’s prey and the pill his desired treasure. Zi Yueye pursued him and intended to cripple his sword cultivation 181 182.

Badly wounded, Tang Qijian used sword qi to seal his injuries and conceal his scent. Qin Shaofeng found him, removed the dangerous sword qi, and carried him deeper into Medicine Beast territory to evade pursuers 176 177.

After recovering, Tang Qijian accepted Qin Shaofeng’s Inner Qi Wall technique and agreed to retaliate through ambushes rather than insist on open combat. This change coincided with the awakening of his ninth-grade Spirit of the Sword Soul. The pair then killed pursuing enemies through coordinated surprise attacks 181 182 183.

Lian Yufeng and her guards later rescued him from three Xiantian Tenth Layer experts. He joined her group partly to secure protection against Zi Yueye for himself and Qin Shaofeng. During the subsequent siege, a last-moment breakthrough and Zhao Yun’er’s healing pills saved his life 192 201.

Divine Sword Peak Infiltration

Divine Sword Peak recruited Tang Qijian for his sword talent. He immediately consulted Qin Shaofeng and helped carry out a scheme against Xu Tianyang and Xu Feiyang. Xu Feiyang accepted him as a disciple and granted him Legacy Disciple status shortly before the Hegemony Competition 464.

His apparent break with Du Meng culminated in a life-or-death duel. Tang Qijian seemingly killed Du Meng, but a substitute doll was involved; the act earned Xu Feiyang’s favor rather than marking a genuine betrayal 515 516 517 545.

After Xu Feiyang’s death, Tang Qijian helped circulate the claim that his master was in seclusion. Divine Sword Peak’s experts believed him because they thought Xu Feiyang’s elixirs had completely controlled him. Du Meng, already aware that Tang Qijian had not betrayed him, challenged him again; their improved cultivation resulted in a draw 545.

Sword Sect and Later Competitions

With Feng Jiuxuan’s assistance, Tang Qijian joined the powerful Sword Sect in the Ancient Saint Domain. His new master was the sect’s vice leader and the biological brother of Du Meng’s master in the Mad God Palace 1182 1283.

He reappeared opposite Du Meng in the Nirvana Realm Grand Competition with eleven Law Pills and a maximum-level Sword Control Technique. Later, enraged by a Demon Race opponent’s killing aura from slaughtering humans, he defeated the ten-Law-Pill Peak Nirvana expert with one full-power slash 1146 1147 1187.

Tantai Yi subsequently secured his departure from the Xuan Family alongside Qin Shaofeng, Du Meng, and Meng Xin’er. During the later Savage Beast Realm expedition, Tang Qijian focused on honing his swordsmanship and developed an even sharper aura 1237 1395 1427.

Personality

Tang Qijian is reserved, low-key, and outwardly cold. He originally regarded honorable swordsmanship as confronting opponents openly, rejecting tricks and assassination. Qin Shaofeng’s persuasion and Zi Yueye’s malicious conduct gradually taught him to distinguish principled behavior from self-defeating rigidity 99 182.

His sister’s death makes him uncompromising toward oppression. Learning of Lu Qi’s crimes provokes such strong killing intent that he wishes to take Qin Shaofeng’s place and kill Lu Qi himself. He likewise reacts angrily to a Demon Race cultivator whose aura reveals extensive slaughter of humans 107 1187.

Discouragement strengthens rather than breaks his resolve. After Old Man Li points out the unrealistic gap between him and Zhao Yun’er, his bearing becomes more determined and his sword intent sharper 117.
