Background and Standing
Class D begins as the school's lowest-ranked first-year class. Its students initially receive 100,000 Private Points each, but the school links future allowances to Class Points and overall class standing. The class is therefore placed at a structural disadvantage once its Class Points are depleted. 2 19
The school's first-month Behavioral Ethics Exam confirms Class D's position: it suffers the greatest deductions and falls to 0 Class Points, leaving its students without their monthly Private Point allowance. Chabashira Sae further explains that failing a subject can result in expulsion. 19
Although Class D contains several individually capable students, it is repeatedly hampered by poor discipline, factional conflict, and short-sighted actions. Kamio Tatsuya characterizes the class as full of “defective products,” while other students question why academically or socially capable classmates such as Hirata Yosuke and Yukimura Teruhiko were assigned there. 20

History
Early Term
Class D enters the school without understanding that its treatment depends on its behavior and Class Points. Hirata Yosuke attempts to unite the class through introductions, while Kushida Kikyo seeks to become friends with every classmate. 2
When the class's points reach zero, its lack of unity becomes apparent. Hirata tries to calm the students, but they struggle to accept their status. 19 20
Kamio anonymously pressures the upper classes to provide aid, arguing that financially desperate Class D students could become a problem. Class A ultimately delivers 800,000 Private Points to Class D. 27 29
Conflicts with Class C
Yamauchi Haruki deliberately injures Ishizaki Daichi in an attempt to extort Private Points from Class C. Class C agrees to pay 100,000 Private Points as a private settlement, but Ryuen uses the incident to create grounds for future retaliation against Class D. 26
A later assault case involving Sudo Ken leaves Class D vulnerable to a major Class Point penalty. The dispute is settled through a certified agreement requiring Class D to pay Class C five million yen in installments. 50 65
Uninhabited Island Exam
The island exam exposes Class D's leadership problems. Its students argue over supplies, toilets, and whether to spend the class's limited points, while Hirata struggles to impose a decision. 74 75
Kamio independently gathers intelligence on Class C's leader, identifying Totsuka Yahiko through his Key Card. He provides the information to Hirata and Kushida, giving Class D a potential means to damage Class C's score. 76 77
Kamio's Departure and the Sports Festival
Kamio arranges to transfer to Class C after accumulating sufficient Private Points. He intends to cooperate with Ryuen and later declares that he will crush Class D rather than help it rise. 89 100
His transfer becomes public at the Sports Festival. Class C uses leaked information about Class D's participation roster to create unfavorable matchups, while Kamio's unexpected speed overwhelms Class D's plans. 130 143
Kamio wins the first-year 4×100-meter relay and is named the first-year Most Outstanding Player. Class D remains at 0 Class Points after the festival. 150
Dependence on Class C
Facing expulsion risks, Class D obtains a proposed loan of 12 million Private Points from Kamio. He offers the money in exchange for an unspecified favor, then demands that Class D surrender to him completely. 217 218 219
Kushida becomes Kamio's paid intermediary within the class. He sends her 50,000 Private Points and has their agreement notarized, using her to direct Class D during later exams. 220 221
During the Command Tower special exam, Class D is contractually bound to follow Kamio's instructions. Ayanokoji Kiyonaka becomes its Command Tower by default, as appointing another student could expose that student to expulsion. 229
Class C subsequently targets and eliminates Class D from the competition, then permits Class D to forfeit a basketball event as part of their alliance. 238
