Background / History

Ancient account and disputed continuity

A memory attributed to the ancient Si Snake depicts it awakening in a primordial era of mass death and madness. After devouring other creatures, it gradually gained intelligence before encountering a blood-covered woman beside a bronze door; she took one of its Reverse Scales and promised it a great fortune. 130

Chen Dragon identifies the ancient Si Snake as one of the Twelve Spirits: taciturn, isolated from most of the others, and able to communicate mainly with her and the Goddess. According to her account, the Goddess personally killed it around ten thousand years earlier after it consumed too many Soul Type creatures and became filled with violent factors and rules. 204

The present Si Snake's connection to that ancient being remains unresolved. He explicitly refuses to confirm that he is the ancient Si Snake and questions whether the enormous skeleton in Snake Abyss is truly that serpent's body. A separate Si Snake remnant also calls the current Si Snake “that bastard,” treating itself as independent. 177 203

Su Qingqiu later finds evidence suggesting that a snake-like Heavenly Soul may have been born in the Nether Nest. He considers the possibility that the ancient Si Snake survived its apparent death by transforming there, but this remains speculation. 213

Current operations

Si Snake spent roughly three thousand years using a human body before revealing a more natural form to Su Qingqiu. He had secretly encouraged contact between the Human Realm and Beyond Heaven, contributing to the weakening of the Human Dao and the deaths of the spirits guarding it. 176

His stated objective is to destroy the Human Dao Heavenly Heart in order to draw the Goddess's attention. He later appears to pursue revenge against a “false Goddess,” though the precise scope and sincerity of this goal are unclear. 177 213

Appearance

Si Snake usually presents himself as a refined man in black clothing, with narrow eyes and an outwardly composed expression. 176 183

  • His revealed form includes massive black scale armor and an immense tail extending through the void. 176
  • His combat manifestation produces a colossal black snake phantom and dense, ominous black energy. 202
  • His aura is described as both immensely evil and strangely pure, comparable in abnormality to a Disaster Soul Type. 176 202

Personality

Si Snake is patient, secretive, and highly manipulative. He has waited tens of thousands of years for his plans, bargains through incomplete information, and routinely leaves his true intentions obscured. 177 191

He remains composed even when confronting the enormous White Fox Soul Type, using its fear and desire for gain to press it toward releasing Human Emperor Qi. 183 His conduct is frequently contradictory: he works to destabilize the Human Dao while also eliminating certain invading anomalies, making his allegiance and final objective difficult to determine. 176 177

When faced with Su Qingqiu's overwhelming strength, however, Si Snake shows fear and retreats from direct confrontation. 239

Abilities & Skills

Twelve Vein Method

Si Snake cultivates the Twelve Vein Method, an anomalous power distinct from the Dragon Transformation Technique. 203

  • His knowledge of the method and its associated forces allows him to influence demons and exploit the Human Realm's instability. 176 200
  • His mind is described as already containing the Twelve Vein Method, making him wary of studying additional Soul Type techniques. 183

Snake Phantom and Pollution

Si Snake can manifest a huge black snake phantom behind himself during battle. 202

  • The phantom bites targets and injects dense black energy into them. 202
  • This energy functions as pollution similar to that used by Soul Types. 202
  • Its abnormal aura is considered no weaker than that of a Disaster Soul Type. 202

Concealment and Long-Term Manipulation

Si Snake has concealed his identity and origins for millennia, leaving even other Soul Types unable to verify who or what he truly is. 191

  • He lured the White Fox toward the remains and True Spirit Bone associated with the Human Emperor Soul Type. 191
  • He knows secret information about the Nether Nest that unsettles the Nether Emperor. 205
  • He can disappear without trace after negotiations or warnings. 177 183

Relationships

  • Su Qingqiu / Dragon Emperor — primary adversary and occasional negotiator; Si Snake seeks to use him and the Human Realm's changing order, while Su Qingqiu regards him as an unresolved threat to be eliminated. 177 213
  • The Goddess — Si Snake's plans revolve around drawing her attention; he may also be pursuing revenge against a false version of her. 177 213
  • White Fox / Nine-Tailed Fox Nation — Si Snake claims he led the White Fox out of chaos, then pressures it to release Human Emperor Qi and trigger the Human Emperor Soul Type's revival. 183
  • Nether Emperor — uneasy ally; Si Snake shares plans involving the Human Realm and uses knowledge of the Nether Nest to pressure him. 200 205 213
  • Hong — collaborator in Netherworld schemes, though Hong places demands on Si Snake and keeps their arrangement tense. 213
  • Hundred-Eyed Devil and the Twelve Vein demons — subordinates or coerced allies used in his attempt to lure and oppose the Dragon Emperor. 200
  • Gods of Tianhuang — Si Snake allies with them and exposes Su Qingqiu's past actions in an effort to turn them against the Dragon Emperor. 239
  • Chen Dragon — one of the few ancient spirits said to have communicated with the original Si Snake; she insists the ancient being was killed by the Goddess. 204
