Background / History
According to legend, Boderuna was born from sunlight. Divine light overflowed from his body at his birth, saturating the surrounding land and rivers with God Strength; the land then rose into the sky and became the divine realm of Boderuna. Its golden gate, Navat, is known as the Sun God's Eye, while mortals are forbidden from entering the realm. 427
He created Boderuna's twelve archangels personally and ruled from the Sun God Hall atop its mountain. By the time Du Ge reached him, however, he had been asleep for millennia; only his angels could approach the forbidden hall without disturbing him. 429 530
Du Ge determined that the Sun God was approximately five times stronger than himself outside the ocean, even before accounting for the Sun God's age and accumulated divine power. To close the gap, Du Ge manipulated the archangels into supporting an assassination attempt and used a poison herb supplied by the God of the Forest to weaken Boderuna's God Strength. 429 430
When awakened, Boderuna regenerated the wounds to his heart and throat almost immediately, then attacked Du Ge and the surrounding archangels with flames and rays of searing light. Du Ge eventually forced him into a stream of confessions, weakening his resolve and divine power enough to sever his limbs and head. 435
After his death, Boderuna's will attempted to invade Du Ge through his head, apparently seeking rebirth through possession. Du Ge crushed the weakened will and absorbed the Sun God's inheritance, gaining control over light and heat. 436
Appearance
While asleep, the Sun God appeared to be a robust young man in his early twenties, with exquisitely carved features and an almost unreal beauty. A faint golden radiance constantly emanated from his body and raised the temperature around him. 429
- Long hair that flared wildly when he released his divine flames. 435
- Golden divine blood, hot enough to burn and disfigure the archangel Fila. 435
- A body described as an energy-like vessel rather than an ordinary mortal form. 429
- In battle, he was wreathed in golden fire and hovered above the battlefield. 435
Personality
Boderuna was profoundly arrogant and regarded himself as the strongest being on the planet, believing that his power entitled him to act without judgment or restraint. He showed little concern for the mortal world or the abuses committed by his angels and religious representatives during his long slumber. 435
His certainty collapsed when Du Ge compelled him to confront accusations of sloth, negligence, and complicity. Although he initially insisted upon his innocence, he became frantic as repeated confessions weakened his divine power. 435
“On this planet, I am the most powerful being. I do whatever I please, and who dares to condemn me?” 435
“Where there is sunlight, I am immortal.” 435
Abilities & Powers
Sun God Strength
Boderuna wielded immense divine power associated with sunlight, light, heat, and flame. As a High God, he relied on raw God Strength rather than conventional techniques. 429
- His body emitted light that heated the surrounding area even while he slept. 429
- He could engulf an area in fire, launch fireballs, and rain down destructive rays of light. 435
- His flames were especially dangerous to the God of the Forest and forced several of Du Ge's allies to shelter beneath sacred water. 435
- He claimed that sunlight made him immortal; after his death, divine power in his head was observed slowly recovering under sunlight. 435 437
Regeneration and Divine Physique
The Sun God's living body possessed extraordinary recovery and durability.
- Deep wounds to his heart and neck healed within moments after Du Ge's initial ambush. 435
- Even after being dismembered, he remained alive until his divine power had been weakened to its limit. 435
- After death, his head, torso, arms, and legs became completely indestructible; neither the Sword of Justice nor the Godslaying Sword could damage them. 436
Teleportation and Combat Speed
Boderuna could move instantaneously and fight at a speed comparable to Du Ge's enhanced movements.
- He teleported out of Du Ge's attempted Seven Apertures Touch assault. 435
- His speed prevented Du Ge from overwhelming him immediately despite Du Ge's superior combat technique. 435
- His fighting style relied heavily on instinct, physical power, speed, and resilience rather than refined martial arts. 435
Creation of Boderuna and Angels
The Sun God's birth created the divine realm of Boderuna, and he personally created its twelve archangels. 427 530
- Boderuna is a floating divine land separated from the mortal world. 427
- The Sun God Hall was maintained as a forbidden sanctuary while he slept. 429
- His archangels could channel portions of his remaining strength through his severed body parts after his death. 436
Equipment / Relics
- Sun God's Chariot — a divine vehicle used by his angels and later commandeered by Du Ge to travel rapidly between kingdoms. 422 440
- Sun God's Head — contained his residual will and substantial God Strength; Du Ge used it as a medium to wield the Sun God's power. 436
- Sun God's Torso — granted to Fila, allowing him to channel divine flames and resist attacks from the Moon God. 436 440
- Sun God's Right Hand — claimed by Rayer after Boderuna's death. 436
- Sun God's Left Hand — claimed by Sto, who could ignite the Sun God's flames through it. 436
- Sun God's Legs — initially held by Nobu and Eddie, though neither could activate their power. 436
Relationships
- Du Ge / King Horry — enemy and slayer. Du Ge orchestrated Boderuna's awakening, forced his confessions, destroyed his invading will, and inherited his God Strength. 435 436
- Rayer — six-winged messenger of the Sun God. Rayer initially opposed Du Ge's plan to kill Boderuna, then received the Sun God's right hand after the god's death. 421 430 436
- Fila — archangel who helped poison Boderuna and suffered severe disfigurement from his divine blood; he later received the Sun God's torso. 430 435 436
- Miller — archangel who explained that gods wield divine abilities through God Strength rather than ordinary skills. 429
- Sto — God of Craftsmen who received the Sun God's left hand and used it to manifest divine flames. 436
- God of the Forest — provided the poison herb intended to halve the Sun God's God Strength before the assassination attempt. 430
- The Pope — Boderuna's mortal spokesperson, whose blasphemy and accumulated crimes helped prompt Du Ge's confrontation with the Sun God's church. 420 421
Legacy
After Boderuna's death, Du Ge distributed portions of his body to motivate the archangels to serve him against the remaining Ancient Gods. The recipients could draw upon the strength contained in the remains, though none truly inherited Boderuna's full power. 436
Du Ge secretly placed a splinter of his own soul inside the Sun God's head as a contingency for future possession. Under sunlight, the head continued accumulating divine power. 437
The head was later used as the foundation for a false God of Darkness. It retained the Sun God's appearance but developed a new body and the powers of darkness and shadow. 444
