A quarter of an hour later, Chief Steward Lan's voice rang out again. "The quarter hour is up. Those who have made their choice, come register with me."

He Wanxing looked at Li Bufan, her eyes carrying a trace of anticipation. "Big Brother Li, I want to take the assessment."

He Wanxing's words pulled Li Bufan back from his thoughts. He looked at her and, after a moment of silence, asked, "Have you thought it through?"

He Wanxing nodded firmly. "I have. I want to grow stronger. I still have things I need to do."

Li Bufan nodded and turned toward Chief Steward Lan, with Liu Ruyan following behind him.

Chief Steward Lan sized up the three of them and asked, "Names, and which Tianxiang Tower you belong to."

"Li Bufan, Tianxiang Tower of Yingtian Prefecture." Li Bufan handed over his Tianxiang Token.

Chief Steward Lan accepted the token, glanced at the green pattern upon it, made a note in the registry, then handed the token back. "Next."

"He Wanxing, Tianxiang Tower of Yingtian Prefecture."

"Liu Ruyan, Tianxiang Tower of Eternal Peace Prefecture."

Once the three had registered, Chief Steward Lan waved a hand, signaling for them to withdraw.

Li Bufan walked to one side, found an open patch of ground, and sat down cross-legged. He Wanxing and Liu Ruyan followed over and sat beside him.

Time passed little by little. People continued making their choices. Some registered to continue the assessment, while others chose to leave.

There were fewer and fewer people in the open ground, until fewer than twenty remained.

Chief Steward Lan rose to her feet, her gaze sweeping across those who remained. "Since you have all chosen to continue, follow me." With that, she turned and walked toward the depths of the open ground.
