Testing the Waters

Above the rolling mountain range,

dark clouds churned, unleashing a sea of purple lightning with terrifying force.

Chen Xia wielded Spatial Law to resist it.

Unlike Water Law, which took countless forms and changed without warning, Spatial Law did not flow or nourish all things, seeping into the tiniest cracks and leaving no opening untouched.

Water possessed two seemingly contradictory yet united extremes: supreme softness and supreme hardness.

Spatial Law, meanwhile, could manipulate distance and dimensions. It could compress and extend, twist and fold, reinforce and shatter. With sufficient mastery, one could travel through space, seal off and isolate an area, or cut, crush, and banish a target.

It could also shift between the real and the unreal. By overlapping and displacing space, one could move oneself or an attack between states of existence and nonexistence to avoid harm.

At a certain level, it could even bend causality. For example, it could make the spatial connection between throwing a punch and landing it uncertain, so that a punch struck the instant it was thrown—or could never land at all.

That effect required Major Completion of the law. Even so, Chen Xia's current mastery of Spatial Law was already extraordinarily powerful for his stage.

At that moment,

the space within a hundred feet of him turned into layers of glass, stacked and hopelessly misaligned.

The sea of purple lightning poured into that distorted space, only to have its power weakened and scattered layer by layer. The divine weapons formed from lightning seemed to sink into invisible mire. Their paths grew chaotic, and their force diminished sharply.

Seizing the chance, Chen Xia sent the blood and vitality within him surging like the mighty Yangtze River. They became a red-gold pillar that shot skyward and slammed into the weakened sea of lightning!
