Tang San is described as a former Tang Sect disciple who retained his past-life experience and considered himself mentally thirty-five while still a child. His need for recognition shaped his devotion to those he accepted as family, particularly Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang. 4 6

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang's disciple and fiercely defended him against Taichu's insults. He challenged Taichu as a Level 11 Soul Master, using Blue Silver Grass to bind and poison him. Acting on Yu Xiaogang's order to kill Taichu, Tang San fired a Sleeve Arrow—only to discover that Genjutsu had made him strike Yu Xiaogang instead. 4 5

Yu Xiaogang absolved Tang San of blame and redirected his anger toward Taichu. Humiliated by the loss, Tang San committed himself to cultivation and repeatedly sought rematches, even surrendering Yu Xiaogang's Soul Beast records and later an Immortal Herb Illustrated Guide as stakes.
