Chapter 13
The Leaky Cauldron Pub was protected by a Muggle Repulsion Charm; only beings with Magic Power could see it.
So when Li Mu entered the Leaky Cauldron Pub, no one suspected that he lacked Magic Power. Unless a wizard was casting a spell, they could not project their Mental Power to sense the Magic Power within another person. No one imagined that a Muggle had slipped in.
Relying on his knowledge of the plot, Li Mu followed a wizard toward the backyard of the Leaky Cauldron Pub.
The wizard ahead tapped the wall in the backyard with his wand. The wall immediately split apart like living building blocks, forming a door. Beyond it lay a narrow cobblestone path lined with all manner of strange shops.
Large numbers of wizards in purple and green robes wandered through the crowded, bustling street.
Li Mu walked quickly, but he committed everything he saw along the way to memory.
Once he had money, everything in these shops would be his.
At the turn at the end of the alley, Li Mu stopped by the roadside and looked at the towering white building.
This was Gringotts Wizarding Bank in Diagon Alley, managed by the Goblins of the Wizarding World.
These Goblins had gone to war with human wizards several times. Though they had lost every time and had even been stripped of the right to use wands, their good reputation in financial matters had still earned them the opportunity to manage the wizarding banks.
Once he conquered the Wizarding World, these Goblins would gradually become his HuoZhong Source Power.
Passing through the gates, he entered the marble hall, where countless Goblins served the wizards coming and going behind long counters.
"I need to exchange a batch of Gold Galleons."
Li Mu walked to an empty counter and spoke.
"Gems, gold, or precious magical materials? We also accept magical equipment as collateral."
The vicious-looking Goblin sized Li Mu up as it spoke.
"Gold."
Li Mu answered firmly.
"The exchange rate for gold and Gold Galleons is 1.5 to 1. How many grams of gold do you wish to exchange?"
the Goblin asked.
"A lot. Too much to discuss here."
Li Mu smiled.
"Please wait!"
The Goblin lightly shook a bell to notify its superior.
Before long, an exceptionally elderly Goblin came for Li Mu. The old Goblin led him to a private reception room in Gringotts.
"You may take out the gold now."
the old Goblin said.
Li Mu took out the pocket that the Hook-nosed Wizard had enchanted with a Vanishment Charm. With its opening facing downward, gold began pouring out—every piece was natural Nugget Gold. It looked as though it was coming from the pocket, but it was actually being transferred from the Supply Bay aboard the Phoenix.
In no time at all, there was no longer even room to stand in the reception room.
Although Li Mu disliked these Goblins, he trusted their integrity when it came to money. Otherwise, the Wizarding World would not have entrusted them with managing the wealth of its wizards. There was no need for him to worry about them stealing from him.
Of course, even if something did happen, he would only lose some worthless gold in exchange for a new identity.
The Spark World had devoured who knew how many living planets, not to mention the plundering carried out by Seedships across parallel universes. Gold was practically worthless in the Spark World, but to civilizations that had never left their home planet, its value was terrifying.
With enough Gold Galleons, anything that money could solve was no problem.
Seeing the reception room submerged in Nugget Gold, the old Goblin immediately summoned several Goblins to pack it into suitcases enchanted with Vanishment Charms. They then began calculating the purity and weight of the Nugget Gold. By the end, even the old Goblin, who had seen countless treasures of gold and silver, felt his scalp tingle.
With only a rough estimate, it could tell that the gold was worth no less than tens of millions of Gold Galleons.
Could this human wizard have mastered the legendary Philosopher's Stone?
Yet as far as it knew, even though the Philosopher's Stone could turn any metal into gold, the process permanently depleted its power. Furthermore, these all appeared to be natural Nugget Gold that had never been processed. The only explanation was that this human wizard had discovered an ancient treasure.
Though deeply shocked, the Goblins quickly calculated how many Gold Galleons could be exchanged.
More than once, they suggested that Li Mu open a vault at Gringotts, but he refused every time.
The Phoenix had a Supply Bay. Sixty million Gold Galleons would not take up much space at all.
Li Mu left Gringotts smoothly. So far, no wizard had set their sights on this newly minted richest man in the Wizarding World.
Starting from the entrance to Diagon Alley through the Leaky Cauldron Pub, he began sweeping through the shops one by one.
At Potage's Cauldron Shop, he bought cauldrons of every model and material.
At Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, he bought a wizard's robe woven from Unicorn hair at an exorbitant price. He had paid more than a hundred thousand Gold Galleons before Madam Malkin reluctantly agreed to sell him this family heirloom she had treasured for many years.
He then went to Flourish and Blotts and bought a copy of every Magic Book available for purchase there.
And that was only the beginning. He continued his spree at the apothecaries of Diagon Alley, buying medicinal ingredients from both Magic Plants and Magical Creatures without sparing a single one. He cleared out more than half the entire shop's inventory.
If the owner had not insisted on keeping some stock, Li Mu would not have left behind even the remaining ingredients.
At Quality Quidditch Supplies, he bought a huge pile of Flying Broomsticks.
At the Magical Menagerie, he paid high prices for materials such as fur shed by various magical animals. He even commissioned the owner to collect materials from all kinds of Magical Creatures, placing an extravagant order large enough to keep the owner in business for ten years.
Even after such a shopping spree, he had spent only a little over a hundred thousand Gold Galleons.
Li Mu, who had been poor his entire life in Frostfire City, felt for the first time how satisfying it was to spend money so freely.
However, as he threw money around so wildly, more and more eyes began watching him from the shadows.
If not for his Nirvana talent, he would have been somewhat intimidated by now.
Being able to revive really was useful. No wonder Voldemort dared challenge the entire British Magic World, and no wonder game players capable of endless resurrection were called the Fourth Calamity. If you could revive, you could endlessly court death without consequences.
After sweeping through the shops several times, he was surprised to find no stores selling Magic Items.
At most, there was a Magic Joke Shop selling prank products. Yet he saw no shop selling Magic Items such as Magic Rings and necklaces, making him briefly suspect that his other Secondary Setting had never taken effect at all.
Besides establishing that wizards originated from the fusion of Magical Creature bloodlines, he had also used the Secondary Setting to improve the alchemy of this world.
But now, it seemed the result was not particularly good?
Fortunately, he had asked around while shopping, and his second Secondary Setting had actually succeeded.
It was simply that even with this world's alchemy improved, wizards who mastered alchemy remained extremely rare. The magical equipment they created through alchemy was usually custom-made for private clients, and there was never enough quantity to open shops for sale.
With no other choice, Li Mu could only head regretfully to Ollivander's Wand Shop, which he had decided to visit last.
