Chapter 19: Surprise! The System's Reward!
The fans were cheering, and the Real Madrid players were celebrating too.
The moment the match ended, teammates from both on and off the field had already rushed to Sun Hao's side.
First they surrounded him, shouting and yelling, then they hoisted him up and tossed him into the air.
Young people never lacked passion!
Watching Sun Hao being thrown up several times in a row on the field, Jocelyn in the stands couldn't stop laughing.
With a night like this, her trip to Spain had far exceeded her imagination.
Sun Hao was finally set down by his teammates. He wanted to glance at Jocelyn in the stands, but he was already being pushed back to the locker room by his teammates.
They were definitely going to celebrate properly.
By the time Sun Hao came out of the locker room, most of the fans at the scene had already left.
But Sun Hao still spotted Jocelyn at the entrance of the arena.
Jocelyn had been waiting there for a while, it seemed.
Sun Hao jogged over, and amid the jeers of his teammates behind him, they left the arena together.
Sun Hao's heart was full of joy, eager to share it with Jocelyn.
But as they walked forward, he noticed that Jocelyn's mood had dropped significantly compared to before.
More importantly, Jocelyn, who had always been proactive and talkative, was now unusually quiet.
Sun Hao didn't know what had happened in between.
After walking a stretch, he couldn't help but speak up.
"Is it because I left you alone for too long, and you're upset?"
Jocelyn didn't respond to him.
Sun Hao stopped and then grabbed Jocelyn.
Jocelyn, caught off guard, was pulled to a stop by him.
"What's wrong?"
Jocelyn seemed distracted, as if she hadn't even heard what Sun Hao had just said.
"Is it because I made you wait too long?"
Sun Hao repeated what he had said.
There was a hint of self-blame in his tone.
He thought it must be that—Jocelyn had been happy for him all night, and he had left her aside.
There was a reason he had been single for 28 years.
"No, no, it's not that, Sun."
Just then, Jocelyn suddenly looked up at Sun Hao.
"Dad called me. He told me to come back immediately, and said if I kept staying in Spain, he would... he would tell me never to come back."
As Jocelyn said this, her hands clenched into fists.
Even though she was mature for her age, she was still young. When her parents said something so harsh to her, she instinctively felt wronged and scared.
Sun Hao was stunned. He hadn't expected things to be completely different from what he thought—Jocelyn's mood wasn't because of him, but because of her family.
This wasn't something he could change, at least not now.
He looked at the girl with a face full of grievance and pulled her tightly into his arms.
Maybe only this way could give Jocelyn a sense of security and make her feel more comfortable.
Jocelyn didn't resist. She just lay there in Sun Hao's arms.
After a long while, she looked up at Sun Hao.
"Sun, I have to go back tomorrow."
It was her decision, and also her helplessness.
"I know. Go back. Don't be a runaway child, and don't let things get too strained with your family."
At this point, Sun Hao was a 28-year-old man.
"I'll see you off tomorrow morning."
Sun Hao walked Jocelyn to the hotel entrance and spoke.
Jocelyn nodded.
Sun Hao wanted to say something, but found he didn't know what to say.
Just then, Jocelyn suddenly stepped forward, hugged Sun Hao, and looked up.
Sun Hao reached out, pulled Jocelyn into his arms, and leaned down.
There was no verbal communication, only an unspoken understanding.
The two of them kissed.
But Sun Hao was clumsy, and Jocelyn had no experience either.
They were like people eating candy for the first time, knowing they had to tear open the wrapper first, but unable to do so, so they had to eat it with the wrapper still on.
Sweet, yet not quite the sweetest.
When they were both almost suffocating, Jocelyn pulled away from him.
Her chest heaved as she gasped for air.
"I was born in New York, but my father is Danish and my mother is American. They met in Denmark."
After her breathing steadied a bit, she continued speaking.
It was like she was telling the story of her parents, or perhaps conveying a message.
Her parents came from different countries, met in Europe, fell in love, and eventually married to start a family.
Sun Hao didn't say anything, just nodded.
Jocelyn pressed her forehead against Sun Hao's.
He could feel her steady breathing.
Jocelyn took a deep breath, then turned and walked toward the hotel.
After two steps, she looked back once, then disappeared through the hotel entrance.
Sun Hao didn't follow. Only after Jocelyn entered the hotel did he turn and leave.
When he got home, he took a shower and prepared to sleep.
Scoring 81 points in a single game would tire even an iron body.
Plus, with everything involving Jocelyn, he was now physically and mentally exhausted.
"Congratulations to the host for scoring 81 points in a low-level league. The system rewards one 'Shooting Training Machine.'"
But just as he lay down, the system's notification suddenly sounded in his mind.
This sound instantly dispelled his drowsiness.
A Shooting Training Machine?
What was that?
Filled with curiosity, he entered the System Space and saw that something new had appeared in the Training Hall.
It was indeed a Shooting Training Machine.
But it was Completely Different from the kind of shooting machines found in arcades.
Because this thing had wheels at the bottom, a vertical rectangular body, and came with two mechanical arms.
It might be more accurate to call it a robot!
Sun Hao went up to try it out and found that whenever he attempted a shot, the machine would move in front of him and extend its mechanical arms to interfere.
This was advanced!
Badge upgrades relied on proficiency, so the difference between games and training was qualitative, because training in this version of the system had no interference.
But with this Shooting Training Machine added, the quality of training would greatly improve, and badge proficiency would naturally increase faster.
This bonus reward couldn't have come at a better time!
And there had been no signs of it beforehand, so it was a genuine big surprise for him!
He immediately threw himself into training.
And once he started, he realized the Shooting Training Machine was very intelligent.
Not only could it simulate a defender's interference, but the defensive intensity was even adjustable.
Truly, anything from the system was bound to be top-notch!
After some time, he could clearly feel that his training effectiveness had improved.
Although, as the system said, the EBA League fell under the category of low-level leagues, those 81 points were totally worth it!
When he had exhausted himself from training, Sun Hao exited the system.
At this point, the excitement had faded, and drowsiness washed over him. He fell asleep in an instant.
After falling asleep, he had a sweet dream.
A few years later, he entered the NBA and reunited with Jocelyn in the United States.
After a long separation, the two of them passionately did what they loved to do.
Unfortunately, before the main event was over, the dream ended.
He felt a dampness in his pants and his face flushed with embarrassment.
It must be because this body was too young! Blame it on puberty!
He took a lightning-fast shower, then hurried off to the hotel.
Jocelyn didn't have much luggage; the two of them packed up quickly and hailed a taxi straight to the airport.
In the cab, Jocelyn kept holding Sun Hao's hand.
They didn't talk much during the ride.
When the car reached the airport, they waited only a short while before boarding was announced.
Jocelyn took one more look to confirm it was her flight, her expression tinged with sadness.
Flights were always delayed—why did this one have to be so punctual?
Just then, she suddenly remembered something, hastily pulled out paper and a pen from her bag, and scribbled something down quickly.
When she finished and handed it to Sun Hao, he saw it was an email address.
"Remember to email me. You have to."
As she said this, Jocelyn kept her eyes fixed on Sun Hao, afraid he might forget.
Sun Hao nodded firmly, then carefully tucked the sticky note away.
Though reluctant to part, after a farewell kiss at the boarding gate, Jocelyn stepped onto the plane back to America.
Watching the plane take off and gradually disappear, Sun Hao felt a hollow emptiness in his heart.
Even though this separation was temporary and they would meet again in America later, who knew how long it would be in between.
He took the sticky note from his pocket, glanced at the email address to memorize it, then carefully put it back.
In this era of underdeveloped communication, for a long time to come, this might be the only way he and Jocelyn could stay in touch.
