The pacing of 5 Centimeters per Second is not as tight as Voices of a Distant Star.

Because Voices of a Distant Star was an animation independently produced by Makoto Shinkai back then, he even voiced the Male Lead himself aside from the soundtrack; perhaps due to budget constraints, the plot and everything else were kept as concise as possible.
