Background
Twilight Chapel is an informal, but legal, chapel in Longcheng's Lower City. It does not worship a god; its faith centers on “twilight.” The Night Banquet Bar describes it as a major place for Hunters to exchange information and handle unusual materials or needs arising from anomaly-related work. 12
The chapel is open to both Hunters and Ordinary Persons. Hunters commonly display and trade creature materials, processed pelts, claws, weapons, and other items there, though some sellers require buyers to present Hunter licenses. 13 14
The Bartender suggests that visitors’ reactions to the chapel differ sharply: some return frequently, while others never wish to return. An acquaintance of his theorized that this is because people may choose the chapel—and the chapel may also choose them. 21
Appearance
Twilight Chapel is a grand, spacious building whose interior is saturated in a calm twilight color scheme. Entering at noon can create the impression of having stepped directly into dusk. 13
- No statues or murals are present; the “twilight” motif fills the interior instead. 13
- Hunters sit on pews, converse, rest, and lay displayed goods across long tables. 13
- The subdued lighting and colors make visitors lose track of time or feel drowsy. 13 18 27 29
- The chapel becomes more crowded toward evening, drawing both Hunters and Ordinary Persons. 14
Services
Weapon Repair
The chapel repairs damaged weapons, including unusual weapons such as Zheng Yichen’s fishing rod. It does not custom-make weapons or repair scrap materials. 13
Injury Treatment and Examinations
The nuns treat injuries and perform physical examinations, but do not treat illnesses or corpses. 13
- Tia cleans, closes, and treats Zheng Yichen’s wounds after his battle with the Unicorn Mule. 27
- The chapel can correct fractures and provide detailed physical examinations. 27 29
- Treatment, maintenance, and examinations are paid services rather than charity. 25
Storage
The chapel offers paid storage for weapons and other items. Items within the standard size specification cost 660 per month; larger storage costs substantially more. 32
- Stored items are reputedly extremely safe, with no reported cases of loss. 32
- Storage staff can relay messages for customers as part of the service. 32
- Zheng Yichen stores firearms and retrieves them before commissions. 19 21
Overnight Stay
Visitors may stay overnight inside the chapel, provided they bring their own bedding and do not obstruct walkways. Consecutive stays incur a fee; two stays within one week count as consecutive. 13
The chapel does not provide meals, though treated tap water is available for direct drinking. 13
Commissions
A nun can offer commissions on the chapel’s behalf. Acceptance remains voluntary: the client provides a task and reward, while the Hunter may accept or refuse. 25
Rules
- Fighting is forbidden; hand-to-hand combat is treated as armed assault. 13
- Harassment of nuns is prohibited. 13
- Smoking is restricted to designated areas. 13
- Littering, graffiti, and intentional damage to chapel facilities are forbidden. 13
- Cursing is allowed, but excessive volume is not. 13
- Long tables are for displaying items; visitors may not lie on them or put their feet on them. 13
- Overnight visitors must not block other people’s movement. 13
Nuns
The chapel is staffed by nuns in standardized attire. Their eye color is uniformly reddish-orange, matching the chapel’s twilight palette, while their hair colors vary. 13
The nuns are professional, restrained, and generally avoid unnecessary conversation. They are also trained combatants; the chapel explicitly warns visitors against harassing them, and regulars report seeing them lift heavy tables with ease. 13 14
Tia
Tia is a milk-white-haired nun whose attire differs slightly from that of the other nuns. She performs Zheng Yichen’s examinations and treatment, informs him that his blood can attract abnormal creatures, and later offers him a commission. 18 24 25
- She can be difficult to notice until someone actively seeks her out. 29 30
- She provides precise updates on stored-property matters, including Arno’s absence. 32
- Her medical strength includes personally setting fractured bones. 27
Notable Patrons
- Zheng Yichen — Frequent Hunter patron who first visits for fishing-rod repair, later uses the chapel for weapon storage, treatment, examinations, supplies, and rest. 13 19 27 29
- Arno — A regular Hunter patron who frequents the chapel, exchanges anomaly knowledge with Zheng Yichen, recommends supplies, and plays cards and mahjong there. 19 20 25 28
- Ordinary Persons — Permitted to enter without restriction; some visit to read, observe Hunter goods, or join games. 14 28
Story Role
- Zheng Yichen learns of the chapel through Jamie and the Night Banquet Bar, which presents it as a useful but potentially expensive destination for novice Hunters. 11 12
- On his first visit, Zheng Yichen has his damaged fishing rod repaired and receives the chapel’s rules booklet. 13
- He begins using the chapel as a place to meet Arno, store equipment, and learn about anomaly-related matters. 19 20
- After being injured by the Unicorn Mule, Zheng Yichen receives treatment there; Tia also reveals that his blood can be used as bait for abnormal creatures. 24 27
- Zheng Yichen and Arno introduce mahjong to the chapel’s Hunters and Ordinary Persons, though the nuns decline to participate. 28 29
