Governance and Society
God's Great World is a bloodline-based civilization in which noble status and knightly cultivation are closely linked. Its inhabitants place immense importance on individual martial strength, while its political order is maintained through a balance among the gods, temples, noble lords, and the Supreme Council. 637 1033
| Institution | Role |
|---|---|
| Five gods | The world's true rulers: the God of War, God of Wealth, God of Justice, Earth God, and God of Knowledge. 1216 |
| Five Great Temples | Serve the five gods, command major resources, administer religious affairs, and maintain world-spanning surveillance for god-level auras. 925 1174 |
| Lords | Control their individual territories and convene to decide major affairs. 637 |
| Supreme Council | Secular governing body composed of representatives of the lords. 637 |
| Nobility | A hereditary class founded on noble bloodlines and knightly power. 1033 |
- The temples possess wealth and resource reserves exceeding those of top noble families, supported by offerings, resource sites, and shares of the world's gains. 925
- Most people possess faith in one of the five gods; abandoning a faith is believed to risk punishment to both body and soul. 724 995
- Individuals with powerful spirits outside temple control may be branded evil-god followers, making unauthorized power a serious danger. 770
History
God's Great World was created by an ancient Creator God who later departed. Its potential to accommodate many gods is attributed to that origin. 1321
Dragon Age and the Age of Gods
During the Dragon Age, dragons were a dominant force, but their low birth rate and the growing availability of human vessels for divine descent weakened their position. The dragon race ultimately shattered the spatial barrier and relocated to another Great World. 1251
After the dragons' departure, gods fought one another for believers. Repeated divine wars depleted many gods until five deities rose through cooperation and mutual trust, defeating or suppressing their rivals and establishing the present order. 1251
Modern Era
God's Great World and the Interstellar Federation became allies against the Zerg invasion. During the War Star crisis, God's Great World disclosed low-level cultivation methods to the Federation; those methods later contributed to the Federation's body-technique and Armored Warrior systems. 169
The alliance remains uneasy. Many traditionalists consider the Federation a world of unbelievers and resist its technology and ideology, while contact between the two civilizations is heavily restricted outside the War Star region. 467 591
Cultivation and Combat
Knight cultivation is the central path of individual power in God's Great World. A practitioner's bloodline determines which inheritance and cultivation methods are suitable for them. 615
| Rank / State | Notes |
|---|---|
| Formal Knight | Roughly equivalent to a Federation Transcendent at Level 2. 620 |
| Earth Knight | A higher knightly rank; a peak Federation Transcendent generally does not exceed an early Level 3 Earth Knight. 754 |
| Sky Knight | Level 4 knight; a major benchmark for high-level combat power. 686 |
| Temple Knight | Level 5 knight; not the end of cultivation in God's Great World. 754 |
| Legendary | A rank beyond Level 5, reached by exceptional knights. 1151 |
| Demigod | Can wield part of a god's power while moving through the main world without the same restrictions imposed on gods. 965 |
| God / God-level | The highest documented level of power; gods who ascend through faith differ from god-level beings who cultivate their way to godhood. 1176 1264 |
- The Federation relies more heavily on external enhancement, while God's Great World preserves a more bloodline-dependent and mystical cultivation system. 615
- A complete knightly inheritance must match its user's bloodline; even advanced methods may be unsuitable for someone of another lineage. 615
- Divine artifacts, divine arts, Talent Abilities, Domains, and Divine Runes are major components of high-level power. 653 909 1160
World Rules and Divine Restrictions
God's Great World possesses a world will and rules that regulate divine beings.
- Gods are suppressed when their true bodies enter the main world; the stronger the god, the greater the normal suppression. 733 753
- The five recognized gods receive substantial advantages from the world's rules, including enhanced defenses, long-distance movement, and access to the Gate of Faith. 1178 1231
- Gods commonly remain in hidden small worlds and act through divine descent, using an accepted body or a temple-supported manifestation to wield part of their power. 753 1230
- A god killed within a small world may retain a true spirit and enter eternal slumber; a god killed in God's Great World has its true spirit devoured by the main world. 760
- Foreign gods are strongly restricted within the main world, and beings from other Great Worlds attempting to ascend there can provoke violent retaliation from the world will. 1237 1294
- The five gods' connection to the world will can weaken when their actions offend it, as occurred after the destruction of Desecration Bugs. 1231
Small Worlds
A god's small world functions as its residence, source of concealment, and foundation for receiving faith and souls. Without souls or faith power, a small world gradually collapses. 733
- Small worlds can be converted into rare spatial items capable of supporting agriculture, habitation, and unique production. 763
- A faith-born god is extremely difficult to kill while its true body remains inside its small world. 1171 1230
- The core of a small world is commonly placed on its divine throne. 1273
Faith and Temples
Faith is both a social institution and a source of divine power.
- Temples gather faith power from believers and refine it into Divine Power Crystals. 1155
- Priests draw large quantities of faith power from temples when casting divine arts. 1191
- Divine arts scale with their user's strength; a god's version can exceed the same art cast by a Level 5 priest. 1160
- Temple buildings are made from exceptionally valuable materials tempered by faith over long periods, giving them extraordinary resilience. 954
- The temples' surveillance network can detect god-level auras appearing in the world. 1174
The five recognized gods hold the overwhelming majority of faith in God's Great World. All other gods are generally classified as evil gods, hunted by the temples, and forced to hide within their small worlds. 1000 1162
Technology and Infrastructure
God's Great World uses alchemy patterns and divine bestowals extensively, but its technological development is shaped by its emphasis on personal strength.
- Starry Sky Flying Boats are wooden aircraft engraved with energy patterns and are used for interplanetary travel. 613
- Portals provide rapid travel between worlds and planets, though their access is controlled for security and political reasons. 770 970
- Guardian Star's Portal remained inactive for thousands of years because of its location near the war zone and the desire to limit Federation cultural influence. 970
- The gods' direct bestowal of techniques has reduced incentives for independent alchemical research, leaving some military applications behind Federation technology. 926
Relations with Other Great Worlds
Interstellar Federation
God's Great World is allied with the Interstellar Federation against the Zerg, but the two societies remain culturally and politically incompatible. 467
- God's Great World handles high-end Zerg threats on War Star, while the Federation manages Zerg below Grade Three and prevents Zerg from escaping the war zone. 467
- Its intelligence networks operate throughout the Federation, though they are not highly valued by many nobles at home. 806 1170
- The Federation's lack of faith is viewed by many priests and traditionalists as spiritually corrupt or sinful. 467 613
- God-level beings entering the Federation are heavily suppressed by its world rules. 1171 1253
Zerg World
God's Great World fought a Great World War against the Zerg World after a Space Gate enabled escalating cross-world conflict. 1206 1236
- The five Space Temples and hundreds of Level 4 Sky Knights defended the Space Gate against Zerg incursions. 1206
- Zerg god-level beings entering God's Great World are weakened by its world laws. 1237
- The five gods and Black Dragon Alexis ultimately faced six Zerg god-level beings in a divine battle on God's Great World's side of the Space Gate. 1237
- The war demonstrated the strategic importance of fighting within one's own Great World, where local gods receive the support of their world's rules. 1253
Major Conflicts
- Zerg invasion of War Star — Prompted the alliance with the Interstellar Federation and the transfer of low-level cultivation methods. 169
- Ancient gods' awakening — The God of Death and other evil gods sought to exploit instability among the temples and return to influence. 921 1251
- Great World War — God's Great World resisted the Zerg World's Space Gate offensive and divine invasion. 1206 1236
- Return of the dragon race — Evil gods activated the Dragon Summoning Array in an attempt to bring dragons back and destabilize the five gods' rule. 1285 1306
- Rise of Demigod Arthur — Arthur's god-slaying and command of multiple god-level beings altered the balance between the five gods, the temples, and the nobility. 1285 1309
Trivia
- Materials written in God's Great World's language are restricted within the Interstellar Federation, though books on its humanities, geography, customs, and basic knowledge are held in Federation armories. 6 173
- Its language system is completely different from Federal Language and is considered exceptionally difficult for Federation citizens to learn. 613
- In the final events of the novel, David becomes a Creator God and establishes the War Star World, pledging peaceful relations with God's Great World. 1321
