They were demons.
Not dozens, not hundreds, but thousands upon thousands, perhaps even more. They surged in from every direction like a black ocean, surrounding the deep pit in layer after layer. They came in all different kinds. Some were clad in black carapaces and brandished enormous forelimbs—Dual-Blade Demons. Some stood upright like humans, covered in spikes, their eyes glowing green—Berserk Demons. Some hovered in midair, several eyes growing from their bodies, black halos of energy circling around them—Demon Eye Warlocks.
They were arranged in perfect order, like a well-trained army. At the very outer ring were the heavily armored Dual-Blade Demons, forming a thick shield wall of flesh, using their own bodies as barriers at the very front. Behind that shield wall were the Berserk Demons, restless and agitated, their forelimbs waving unconsciously as low growls rumbled in their throats while they waited for the command to charge. Behind the Berserk Demons were the Demon Eye Warlocks, floating in midair, six or eight eyes flashing with dark purple light at the same time as they brewed some kind of dark magic.
Shields, warriors, mages.
This was a complete, organized army.
Situ Xuan stood at the center of the deep pit, looked around, and the corners of his mouth twitched slightly.
For some reason, a stream of information appeared in his mind. It was not a voice, nor was it text, but an understanding poured directly into his consciousness. It was as if this information had always been in his head and had only now been awakened.
The Star Sea Giant Whale was going off to hunt, leaving him to graze on this planet for a while. Once he had eaten and drunk his fill, it would come back to pick him up.
Graze.
