Starlight fell over the mountain of corpses and sea of blood, casting a silver sheen over the black blood, lighting the shattered carapaces until they looked like scattered stars, and making the dried scabs of blood on Situ Xuan's body give off a dull reflection.
There was no savage aura in that starlight, none of the demonic energy's chill, none of the violence of malevolent qi—only a warm, tranquil stillness, as vast and quiet as deep space.
Situ Xuan raised his head.
His pupils contracted slightly.
A man stood within the starlight.
He stood there without warning, without sound, as if he had been there all along and had merely been concealed by something before, only revealing himself now that the starlight had fallen.
The man was about the same height as Situ Xuan, around two meters tall, but his build was entirely different. Situ Xuan had a frame like a mountain range, muscles jagged as basalt, and an overwhelming masculine vigor and blood-heat. This man was slender, like a long sword drawn from its sheath, lean and sharp. His skin was pale, so pale it was almost translucent, with faint blue veins visible beneath it.
His hair was orange-red, long enough to fall to his calves, like a burning river in the starlight. His eyes were the same orange-red, warm and bright, without the slightest hostility in them—only a deep, starry calm. On his forehead was an orange six-pointed star mark, glowing faintly under the starlight and echoing the light in his eyes.
He wore a dark-gold robe. There was no demonic crest on it, no ferocious totem, only patterns of scattered stars, identical to the starlight falling from the sky.
Situ Xuan looked at the man, his brows knitting slightly.
Not out of fear. Not out of nerves.
