Realm Structure

The Zhuqi Realm has nine layers, grouped into three major stages. Its cultivation centers on transforming internal energy into tangible true qi, then expanding and refining the body's circulation system. 14 28

Entering the Realm

A Body Tempering martial artist must open qi meridians and circulate their cultivation technique through them. This gradually converts formless internal energy into visible, tangible true qi. 14 20

• Ordinary techniques may require only twelve connected meridians for the initial breakthrough, trading true-qi quality for speed. 14
• Chen Xuan entered the first layer after opening all thirty-six meridians required by the top-tier Vajra Technique; his internal energy completed thirty-six cycles before condensing into true qi. 23
• True qi is vastly more solid than internal energy and continues to temper the cultivator's body as it circulates through the limbs and internal organs. 23

The number of meridians and acupoints opened at each level depends heavily on the cultivation technique's grade.

Cultivation Stages

Pimai

Pimai is the meridian-opening stage. Its primary measure is the number and quality of qi meridians connected for true-qi circulation. 28 30

• A first-layer cultivator who uses the Vajra Technique has thirty-six opened meridians; the technique's second layer requires seventy-two, while its third requires one hundred and eight. 28 36 40
• More open meridians improve the quantity, quality, and circulation speed of true qi. 30
• Cultivation aids such as Pulse Breaking Pills can protect meridians during breakthrough attempts and substantially reduce the time needed to open them. 30

Tongqiao

Tongqiao begins after qi-meridian cultivation and focuses on the body's hidden acupoints. 40

• The human body contains three hundred and sixty acupoints that are ordinarily difficult for qi to reach. 40
• Opening and filling acupoints with true qi produces a further bodily transformation. 40
• With ordinary techniques, the fourth, fifth, and sixth layers respectively open twelve, twenty-four, and thirty-six acupoints. 40

Tuotai

Tuotai is the seventh through ninth layer of the Zhuqi Realm and marks a qualitative change in both body and mind. 27 77 78

• At the seventh layer, a cultivator forges a specialized physique based on their principal technique, such as a Vajra Body or Huanri Body. 77
• The defining sign of Tuotai is the awakening of mental power, allowing spiritual projection and heightened perception. 27 78
• A seventh-layer expert can directly affect another person's spiritual world with mental power; their true qi is also far superior to that of ordinary Zhuqi-Realm practitioners. 27
• Under normal circumstances, Tuotai martial intent affects only the mind. A cultivator of a divine technique can instead form a reality-affecting domain at the seventh layer. 88

Capabilities & Significance

• True qi — The realm's defining energy. Unlike formless internal energy, true qi can visibly manifest and can be condensed into barriers, sword qi, or needle-like attacks. 20 24
• Physical enhancement — True qi continually tempers the bones, muscles, organs, and senses, allowing Zhuqi-Realm martial artists to sustain exertion and move far beyond Body Tempering practitioners. 23 29 38
• Pressure and intimidation — Even an unrestrained Zhuqi-Realm aura can impose substantial pressure on Body Tempering martial artists. 6
• Combat superiority — The gap in true-qi quality and speed generally allows Zhuqi-Realm martial artists to overwhelm Body Tempering opponents, though exceptional Body Tempering practitioners using top-tier techniques may contend with newly advanced cultivators. 14 20
• Sect standing — At Guiyuan Sect, breaking through to the Zhuqi Realm grants inner-disciple status; disciples who fail to do so within five years may be sent away to serve in sect-controlled cities. 1
• Lifespan — Even a ninth-layer Zhuqi-Realm martial artist has a maximum lifespan of no more than two hundred years. 36
