Background / History
Meng Changsheng is Meng Hu's elder brother and a prominent Tianxuan Peak disciple. He possesses top-tier aptitude, became the Second Elder's personal disciple three years before the events of Chapter 63, and is considered a likely future Chief True Disciple of Tianxuan Peak. His influence within the sect is reinforced by extensive connections and resources. 59 62 63
After Chen Xuan humiliates Meng Hu, Meng Changsheng initially suppresses his anger and orders Li An to investigate Chen Xuan rather than retaliating immediately. He regards an audacious newly promoted inner disciple as either reckless or backed by something significant. 59
Li An's report reveals Chen Xuan's low-grade aptitude upon entering the sect, his assignment to Tiannan Prefecture, and his abrupt rise after returning. Meng Changsheng dismisses Chen Xuan as a fortunate peasant from Taiping County, but treats the matter as an affront to the Meng family's status. 61 62
Personality
Meng Changsheng is outwardly calm, deliberate, and image-conscious. His restrained demeanor masks intense anger: when Meng Hu reports his humiliation, the cold tea in Meng Changsheng's hand goes untouched while the twitch of his eye reveals his agitation. 59
He favors indirect methods over impulsive confrontation. He investigates opponents, employs followers, trades favors, and manipulates sect procedures to act from a position of advantage. 59 62 63
His attitude toward Chen Xuan combines class prejudice, resentment over family honor, and growing caution. Following Yang Zhan's defeat, he acknowledges that he underestimated Chen Xuan and orders a much deeper investigation into his time in Tiannan Prefecture. 62 69
Abilities & Skills
Cultivation and Combat
Meng Changsheng is a Qi Casting sixth-layer cultivator who has cultivated profound techniques and martial skills. Despite not reaching Qi Casting seventh layer, he has grasped martial-path momentum and is said to be capable of killing a Tuotai Realm expert across a realm gap. 79

Story Role / Major Arcs
Retaliation for Meng Hu
Meng Changsheng learns that Chen Xuan forced Meng Hu to kneel, kowtow, and call Chen Shitou “grandfather.” Rather than immediately responding, he orders a covert background investigation. 57 59
Combat Assessment Scheme
Using his influence in the Neiwu Hall, Meng Changsheng arranges for Yang Zhan—a Qi Casting fourth-layer disciple and one of the strongest new inner disciples—to serve as Chen Xuan's combat-assessment opponent. His letter instructs Yang Zhan to “go all out,” which Yang Zhan interprets as an order to kill Chen Xuan. 62 63 64
The plan fails when Chen Xuan defeats Yang Zhan with one sword strike. Meng Changsheng, who had awaited news of Chen Xuan's death, is shocked and enraged; he responds by expanding his investigation into Chen Xuan's true cultivation, techniques, and experiences in Tiannan Prefecture. 68 69
Conflict with Sword Peak and the Star Assembly
Meng Changsheng's pressure extends beyond Chen Xuan personally. Tianxuan Peak targets disciples supported by the Star Assembly and publicly labels Chen Xuan a coward while he remains in seclusion. 78
Chen Xuan answers by defeating thirty Tianxuan Peak disciples in consecutive one-strike matches. As reports of the losses reach Meng Changsheng, he remains chillingly composed before sending Chen Xuan a formal ranking challenge. 82 83
Challenge to Chen Xuan
After Chen Xuan rises from 360th to 153rd on the Inner Disciple Ranking, Meng Changsheng challenges him through their identity tokens. Chen Xuan accepts but schedules their match at the Sword Fighting Arena for one month later. 83 84
The impending duel becomes widely known in the inner sect and is a subject of concern for the Star Assembly. 85
