Seven Tower.
In the command hall, Ashley held her phone, staring at the screen showing the "Dodge News Live Stream."
On it, a man calling himself Dodge Wesson spoke into the camera.
"Folks, this is just insane!"
"I just got the info on that victim—guess who she is."
"She's Angelina Caiton!"
"Daughter of the recently deceased tycoon Truman Caiton. If I remember right, after that rich man died, Miss Angelina tried to jump off a building from grief, and Homelander saved her."
"And today, she gets stabbed inside Seven Tower."
"Makes you wonder, doesn't it!"
"Could Homelander be involved in Truman Caiton's death?"
"Tied up in a multi-billion-dollar asset dispute?"
"If so, I can kinda see why Homelander would force that ambulance to stop and take away Angelina, who should've been rushed to the hospital."
"Maybe this gentleman doesn't want Miss Angelina alive!"
"Of course, that's just speculation—we need Homelander or Seven Tower to give an official response."
"I'm in the Seven Tower lobby right now. Hello, I'm reporter Dodge Wesson, and I'd like to interview Homelander or the person in charge of Seven Tower."
"My audience and I want to know why Homelander forcibly took Miss Angelina away."
On the phone screen, Ashley watched the reporter walk into the first-floor lobby of Seven Tower and approach the reception desk.
"This bastard!"
Ashley glanced at the live stream's viewer count—a long string of numbers: 1,027,921!
Over a million people watching!
And the barrage of comments below flashed by so fast she could barely make out what they said.
But one thing was certain: this had grabbed massive public attention.
If handled poorly, Homelander's image could come crashing down.
At that thought, Ashley tugged at her hair in frustration, and when she lowered her hand, a few strands drifted to the floor.
Her phone rang—it was the front desk.
A few minutes later, Ashley reached the lobby and met the reporter.
She put on a professional smile and accepted Dodge Wesson's interview.
"Ms. Ashley, why did Homelander stop that ambulance and forcibly move the victim without her consent?"
"Didn't he know Miss Angelina's condition was critical? Moving her recklessly could've cost her life?"
"Do you know where Homelander is right now?"
Questions hit her like cannon fire, leaving Ashley struggling to parry.
Inside, she was screaming.
How the hell should I know why that psycho stopped the car!
I bet he doesn't give a damn if Angelina lives or dies!
As for where he is? Of course I don't know—I'm just an assistant, a damn assistant, not his babysitter!
Just as Ashley was about to answer, a dull whoosh came from outside the building, and someone rushed in, shouting excitedly, "Homelander's back!"
Dodge Wesson's eyes lit up. "Ms. Ashley, could I get an exclusive interview with Homelander?"
Ashley smiled. "Sorry, sir, interviews require an appointment. You know, superheroes are busy—especially Homelander."
The reporter smirked. "Really? Funny, I don't get the impression Homelander's all that busy, or he wouldn't have stopped a car mid-road."
"Ms. Ashley, I think you should think this over carefully. After all, there are—oh, over a million viewers who want answers."
"They want to know about Miss Angelina's condition."
"Am I right?"
"If you agree, type '1' in the comments."
The next second, the live stream's comments exploded.
A sea of "111111" flashed across the screen, and Ashley's face went pale.
"So, Ms. Ashley."
Dodge Wesson, like a vulture catching the scent of carrion, refused to let the opportunity slip and pressed harder.
"Are you trying to cover something up for Homelander?"
"Or does Homelander have some dirty secret?"
"I hope I'm wrong, but the more I think about it, the more it feels like this so-called Homelander, this so-called protector, is all a sham."
"If that's not the case, then refute me with facts, ma'am!"
Ashley shook her head and gestured. "Security, please escort this gentleman out."
"Oh, my God."
"Did everyone hear that?"
"They're actually calling security to clear the place!"
"Don't we have the right to know the truth?"
"Or is Homelander hiding something shady?"
Dodger Wesson shouted hoarsely, excited and thrilled like a warrior about to join a holy war.
Several security guards approached to 'escort' him out.
Then a voice rang out.
"I won't allow you to slander Homelander!"
Hearing that voice, Ashley's face lit up.
Dodger Wesson looked bewildered.
The security guards stepped back at Ashley's signal, and the reporter saw a bright, tall young woman walk over.
It was Angelina Caiton herself!
Dodger Wesson's mind buzzed, and he thought to himself.
Wasn't she on the verge of death?
How can she walk?
Doesn't that make me a liar?
I just told the audience Angelina was dying, and now...
Snapping back to reality, the reporter moved to shut down the livestream.
Ashley was quick—she snatched his phone and turned the camera on Dodger Wesson.
"Sir, didn't you want to know the truth?"
"Now that Miss Angelina is here, you can ask her yourself."
Dodger looked awkward, but Angelina faced the camera with poise. "I was attacked in the Seven Tower, and my life was in danger."
"Homelander saved me—yes, for the second time!"
"If he hadn't stopped the ambulance in time and taken me away for treatment, I might be dead by now."
"And wouldn't that have played right into some people's hands?"
She turned her gaze to Dodger Wesson. "But what surprises me is that while Homelander was racing against time to save my life, someone stepped up to question him! Slander him! Defame him!"
"Mr. Dodger, I know you want to use this incident, to hype it up to boost your own fame."
"But ask your conscience—aren't you afraid of chilling people's hearts by doing this?"
"You should know that Homelander rescued the hostages at Vought International Department Store this morning."
"And when he heard I was in danger, he came to save me without a second thought."
"While he was busy protecting us, you were stabbing him in the back—stabbing a true hero!"
"I think you're disgracing the title of journalist."
"You don't deserve to be called a reporter!"
