History
Early history and Konoha alliance
Uzushiogakure was founded by Ashina Uzumaki in the Land of Whirlpools. Its representatives were among the first delegations to reach Konohagakure for the first Five Kage Summit. 19 117
The village's close relationship with Konohagakure originated in the ties between the Uzumaki and Senju clans, strengthened by Hashirama Senju's marriage to Mito Uzumaki. Uzushiogakure's sealing arts remained its own guarded inheritance despite Konoha's access to some techniques through Mito. 25 43
Takenaka Kaguya's arrival
Takenaka Taketori first entered Uzushiogakure at Mito's request, where Uzumaki patrols identified and escorted him into the village. He observed that even ordinary Uzumaki shinobi possessed unusually large chakra reserves. 43
Ashina offered Taketori village leadership and unrestricted access to Uzumaki sealing techniques. Taketori initially declined the leadership offer but later bound himself to Uzushiogakure, partly to honor Mito and prevent the village from suffering the destruction it faced in the original timeline. 45 47
After leaving Kirigakure, Takenaka formally joined Uzushiogakure and began planning its long-term growth. His presence quickly became the village's principal deterrent against outside aggression. 117 120
Expansion under Takenaka
Takenaka advocated a five- to tenfold population increase over twenty years through the recruitment of civilian residents and smaller ninja clans. He viewed population, economic activity, and the integration of new bloodlines as essential to Uzushiogakure's future strength. 120
The village expanded rapidly: its population and shinobi numbers eventually approached Konohagakure's, while its Twelve Earthly Branches Anbu developed reserve teams and recruited further candidates from the Ninja Academy and smaller families. 128 157
After Ashina's death, Takenaka became Uzushiogakure's recognized leader. He continued urban expansion, including new housing outside the former southwest wall, and invested in research and infrastructure. 174 176
Capabilities
Fūinjutsu
Uzushiogakure is renowned throughout the Shinobi World for the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques.
- Its sealing arts are regarded as the most reliable means for ordinary shinobi to control tailed beasts. 19
- Uzumaki seals can threaten even Kage-level opponents if deployed at the right moment. 120
- The village's expertise directly counters the Impure World Reincarnation Technique, whose reanimated bodies are vulnerable to sealing. 211
- Mito Uzumaki's techniques, including the Yin Seal, were taught to Takenaka and became an important link between Uzushiogakure and Konoha. 47 96
Uzumaki chakra and reconnaissance
- Uzumaki shinobi possess chakra reserves far above ordinary ninja; the village's patrol shinobi were noted to have jōnin-level chakra. 43
- The clan employs the Mind's Eye of the Kagura for long-range detection and reconnaissance. 43
- Uzushiogakure's reputation for vast chakra reserves and dangerous seals discouraged enemy villages from deploying jinchūriki against it. 206
Military forces
- The village maintains the Twelve Earthly Branches Anbu, including reserve teams trained in underwater endurance and Rokushiki. 157
- By the later period, Uzushiogakure had developed more than twenty Kage-level combatants, alongside Takenaka Kaguya and powerful figures such as Wanghun Kagami Uchiha. 250 371
- White Cells research improved the physical condition of Uzushiogakure's shinobi, contributing to its rising military strength. 213
- During the siege of Uzushiogakure, its forces repelled the Shinobi Allied Forces while suffering several hundred casualties and leaving thousands of enemy dead. 213
Economy and development
- Uzushiogakure became one of the fastest-growing villages in the Shinobi World; nobles and merchant guilds increasingly prioritized it for mission commissions. 206
- Rival villages attributed major losses in mission income to Uzushiogakure's growth, with Iwagakure reporting a 20% decline and Sunagakure reporting that its mission volume had been cut in half. 206
- The village actively expanded housing and accepted incoming civilians and ninja clans to sustain population growth. 176 365
- During Takenaka's ten-year absence, Mingyue Takenaka used merchant guilds to recruit members of declining clans from other villages. 365
Relationships
- Konohagakure — Longstanding ally through the Uzumaki-Senju relationship and Mito Uzumaki. The alliance deteriorated after Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō covertly supported the siege of Uzushiogakure. 43 206 215
- Mito Uzumaki — A central personal and political link to Konoha. She treated Takenaka as a younger brother, helped teach him the Yin Seal, and repeatedly sought to preserve the alliance. 28 47 239
- Ashina Uzumaki — Founder and first leader. He recruited Takenaka into the village and entrusted Uzushiogakure's future to him. 45 47 174
- Kirigakure — Takenaka's former home village. Its shinobi monitored Uzushiogakure after his settlement there but avoided open conflict due to fear of him. 117
- Amegakure — Later military partner; Amegakure and Uzushiogakure jointly surrounded Sunagakure's base in the Land of Rain. 226
- Sunagakure and Kirigakure — Developed favorable ties through Takenaka's disciples Sasori and Kisame, respectively. 368
- Iwagakure and Kumogakure — Long-term antagonists that targeted Uzushiogakure's shinobi and merchant guilds during Takenaka's absence, prompting the later Unification War. 368 371
Major Conflicts
Siege of Uzushiogakure
More than twenty villages and nations assembled a coalition to destroy Uzushiogakure, motivated by fear of its sealing arts, economic expansion, and Takenaka's status as the new God of Shinobi. Shimura Danzō promised covert support from Konohagakure and claimed that Takenaka would be contained. 206 207
The siege failed. Uzushiogakure's defenses and Takenaka's intervention shattered the coalition's morale, including attempts to use reanimated Hashirama, Madara, and Tobirama against him. 211 213
Retaliation and the Second Shinobi World War
Following the siege, Takenaka launched a revenge operation against the participating villages and confronted Konohagakure over Danzō's betrayal. Mito forced Hiruzen Sarutobi to abdicate in an effort to preserve peace with Uzushiogakure. 215
Uzushiogakure later intervened in the Second Shinobi World War alongside Amegakure. Its forces helped force Sunagakure's surrender, compelling Konohagakure to withdraw rather than face Uzushiogakure directly. 226 227
Unification War
After Iwagakure and Kumogakure targeted Uzushiogakure's people and commerce during Takenaka's absence, he approved Mingyue's proposal to unify the Shinobi World. The Three Takenaka siblings began by confronting Iwagakure, while Uzushiogakure prepared an invasion of Kumogakure. 368 371
The campaign faced internal opposition from villagers concerned about war, but Mingyue and the village leadership moved to suppress the protests in favor of the unification effort. 371
