Upon hearing Snape's command, the students immediately sprang into action.
"I'll go," Scott volunteered, standing up.
"Right," Milton said with an embarrassed smile, "sorry to trouble you, Scott."
Scott understood that he didn't want to get near Snape unless it was absolutely necessary.
Scott walked to the cabinet on the side of the classroom and began retrieving the potion ingredients he needed.
The surrounding students were also methodical, and there was no sign of the panic that usually occurred when someone didn't know which ingredients to grab.
After all, everyone was already in their fourth year; they wouldn't give Snape another chance to deduct points for such trivial matters.
When everyone had returned to their seats with their materials, Snape pulled out his wand and gave it a flick, causing instructions to appear on the blackboard behind him.
"Very well," he said, "now, begin brewing according to the steps on the board!"
Scott and Milton quickly looked up at the blackboard, using their quills to mark the differences between the board's instructions and those in their textbooks.
A true Potions master would always optimize the brewing process for various potions. Fourth-year students had learned through countless past lessons that they must prioritize Snape's blackboard notes in Potions class.
Scott reviewed the process for the Antidote once more, discussed it briefly with Milton, and the two began to divide the labor of preparing the ingredients.
At this point, Snape also began to move, walking silently around the classroom, stopping from time to time to stare at the students' work with an oppressive gaze.
Whenever Snape walked past them, Milton would begin to shrink back, not even daring to breathe. At these moments, Scott had to divert some of his energy to prevent Milton from making a mistake in his panic.
Fortunately, this wasn't Milton's first time dealing with such a situation, and he had gained experience in how to handle it.
Although he still couldn't remain immune to Snape's interference, he would stop whenever he felt his thoughts becoming unclear; this way, while his speed was slower, he wouldn't easily make mistakes.
During this class, Snape passed by Milton several times, and once, he even leaned in very close to stare at his movements on purpose.
Scott quickly took over the work before Milton's hands could shake.
This seemed to disappoint Snape somewhat; Scott heard him exhale heavily through his nose before turning and walking away.
However, not everyone in the class escaped unscathed like Milton. Several Hufflepuff students made mistakes during the brewing process, allowing Snape to deduct five points from Hufflepuff as he had hoped.
In particular, Roger's ex-girlfriend, Miss Mill, seemed to have her attention entirely focused on Roger and his new Potions partner. In short, she kept making mistakes throughout the class, and in the end, thick smoke even began to billow from her cauldron.
Consequently, Hufflepuff was docked another five points due to Miss Mill's error.
Fortunately, the Hufflepuff students never placed much importance on house points. On the way out after class, they quickly became cheerful again.
Milton, on the other hand, still wore the expression of someone who had just survived a disaster after walking out of the Potions classroom.
Scott patted him on the shoulder and said, "Hey, it's over. We got an A (Acceptable) on our potion. Now let's put the Antidote behind us and hurry to History of Magic to get some rest."
"Oh right, History of Magic."
Milton snapped out of it, put his copy of Magical Drafts and Potions into his bag, and pulled out a History of Magic textbook.
"I love History of Magic!"
Milton became visibly happy, hugging the thick book to his chest.
I knew it, Scott thought.
Milton was probably the only student who listened to History of Magic with genuine interest.
Although Professor Binns, who was a ghost, spoke in a tone that made people drowsy, Milton was exceptionally skilled at imagining romantic and beautiful stories from that dry, dull history.
He had gained much inspiration from this in the past, even writing over thirty cello pieces themed around "historical stories."
Ravenclaw had this History of Magic class together with Slytherin, so Roger had rushed into the classroom alone before the lesson began.
"You didn't even bring your textbook."
Scott looked at the copy of Magical Drafts and Potions in his hand.
Was this kid being a bit too arrogant?
"Geminio."
Roger pulled out his wand, duplicated Scott's textbook, and gave a smug smile.
"By the way," he leaned in and whispered, "we're testing a new formation this afternoon. Do you and Milton want to come and watch?"
"A new formation? I recall the team changed Seekers recently?" Scott asked.
"That's right, Cho Chang is pretty good," Roger said. "Honestly, better than Carson."
Carson, a seventh-year, had been the previous Ravenclaw Seeker. Because he was nearing graduation and had never achieved good results on the team, he had voluntarily given up the Seeker position to Cho Chang this time.
"Want to come see? Maybe you two can give us some suggestions," Roger said to Scott and Milton.
Both Scott and Milton were somewhat interested in the team's new formation and new member, so they readily agreed.
"I'll be there," Scott said. "I only have one Arithmancy class this afternoon."
"I have Divination," Milton said.
In the afternoon, Scott returned to his dormitory first after leaving the Arithmancy classroom.
By the time he arrived at the Quidditch pitch, Milton was already sitting in the stands.
"Did you come straight here after class?" Scott asked casually, seeing that he was still carrying his school bag.
"That's right, the atmosphere in Divination class today was a bit heavy." Milton seemed somewhat uneasy, "I wanted to come over early to relax a bit."
"What did Professor Trelawney predict this time?" Scott asked, already accustomed to it.
"She said..." Milton swallowed hard and began to imitate Professor Trelawney's peculiar voice, "Shadows have already shrouded Hogwarts; someone will meet with misfortune after Halloween."
That actually sounded quite accurate, didn't it? If it referred to the "original plot" regarding the Chamber of Secrets.
"You should be used to it by now." Scott said to Milton, "Professor Trelawney often makes sensationalist predictions."
"I hope nothing happens." Milton was still worried.
"Nothing will happen." Scott said.
Because he had already decided to nip the danger in the bud. If his plan went smoothly, the only victim would be a cat.
As the two were talking, the team members flew out of the locker room by the pitch on their broomsticks.
They circled the pitch a few times first, during which Roger kept waving at Scott and Milton.
"Something's wrong."
Scott narrowed his eyes, suddenly stood up, and drew his wand.
Seeing his serious expression, Milton hurriedly asked, "What's wrong?"
"Sonorus."
Scott pressed his wand against his throat.
"Roger!" His voice instantly echoed across the entire pitch, "Jump off immediately! There's something wrong with your broom!"
Out of long-standing trust and rapport, Roger immediately flipped off his broomstick without a moment's hesitation.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Scott raised his wand and cast a perfectly timed Levitation Charm on the falling Roger, causing him to hover in mid-air.
Just at that moment, Roger's broomstick began to spin wildly in the air, even emitting black smoke.
