Background / History
Class D is one of the school’s first-year classes. Its students are not necessarily lacking in individual ability; according to Sae Chabashira, the class consists of students evaluated as having poor teamwork skills despite their other strengths. The class’s designation is treated by Horikita Manabu as disgraceful, driving Horikita Suzune to question the school’s placement criteria and seek a way out. 13 18
From its first lessons, Class D displays little discipline or collective purpose. Students sleep, play games, read magazines, and socialize during Chabashira’s history class, while only a few—including Horikita—remain attentive. 9
Characteristics
- The class is marked by weak cooperation and a lack of shared responsibility. 18
- Its students frequently disregard classroom discipline and school rules. 9 27
- Financial pressure quickly exposes internal conflict: when Private Points vanish, Sudo Ken assaults Yamauchi Haruki over an unpaid debt. 22 23
- Many students prioritize immediate spending and personal interests over long-term class competition. 27 28
- Attempts to organize the class are routinely undermined by distrust, ridicule, and poor communication. 23 43
Relationships
- Sae Chabashira — Homeroom teacher. She considers Class D a difficult group of “defective products” but remains committed to bringing it to Class A. 1 10 47 48
- Horikita Suzune — Class member who initially seeks to unite the class and raise it to Class A; her proposals are rejected or ignored by her classmates. 21 23 27 43
- Xu Nuo — Class member who refuses to tie his goals to the class’s promotion, citing his ability to transfer with his Private Points. 47 48
- Yosuke Hirata — A mediator within the class who repeatedly tries to calm disputes and encourage cooperation. 2 22 23 27
- Class A, Class B, and Class C — Rival first-year classes. Class D’s information advantage is lost after its students freely disclose school-rule information to members of the other classes. 3 43
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Classroom Disorder
Class D is introduced as the most disorganized first-year class during the opening ceremony. Its poor discipline continues in class, contrasting sharply with Horikita’s solitary diligence. 3 9
Private Point Incident
After the school’s Private Points are wiped to zero, Class D reacts with panic, arguments, and violence. While Hirata tries to restore order, most students focus on recovering their individual points rather than investigating the wider situation. 22 23
Rejection of Horikita’s Proposal
Horikita purchases information about the school’s class-point system for two million Private Points and asks each classmate to contribute fifty thousand points. The class responds with hostility, accusing her of attempting to scam them. 20 23
Afterward, Horikita learns that Class D students had already spread the supposedly valuable information to the other classes, destroying her plan to sell it and repay her debt. 43
Sudo Ken’s Expulsion Crisis
Sudo’s fight with Class C students places him at risk of expulsion. Chabashira views saving him as important to Class D’s potential promotion, but Xu Nuo refuses to intervene for the class’s sake. 41 47
