Background / History

The Douluo Federation established the War God Temple after the Abyss Plane's invasion six thousand years earlier exposed the Federation as “a commander without an army.” It was created to recruit powerful individuals from across the continent, resist the Abyss, and protect humanity. 2

After six thousand years of development, the Temple gained broad public recognition and became one of the four major forces controlling humanity's high-level combat power, alongside Shrek Academy, the Tang Sect, and the Spirit Pagoda. 2

Xie An became Temple Master in the present generation. His stated reason for taking the office was the Temple's direct oversight of the Blood God Legion and its position on the Abyssal front line. 1 Under his leadership, the Temple aggressively targeted Evil Soul Masters, including recruiting Dark Phoenix Douluo Leng Yulai after she defeated the former Third War God, Luo Yuhang. 5 13

Most War Gods are promoted from military service. Even Shrek Academy graduates must undergo military tempering before becoming War Gods; the top five, aside from Leng Yulai, fought their way out of the Blood God Legion. 8

Recruitment and Training

• The Temple maintains an entry trial in which applicants must defeat a gatekeeper and pass a background check. It was originally limited to military personnel, but was later opened to civilian experts. 12

Demon Plane Intervention

Xie An deployed the First through Fifth War Gods to investigate the Yuanen Clan and the influence of Demon Plane power over Yuan'en Yehui. 13 The Temple's forces fought alongside the Yuanen Clan against Demon Monarch Wujie, Great Devils, and Three-Headed Giant Dogs. 15 16

After the crisis, Xie An used the operation to recruit the Yuanen Clan. Yuanen Zhentian ultimately pledged the clan to the Temple after Xie An successfully completed a Heavenly Forging and agreed to forge Four-Word Battle Armor for him. 22 23 26

Expansion and Public Influence

The Temple and Tang Sect jointly announced the public release of the Mysterious Heaven Skill after Xie An pressed the Tang Sect to lift its restrictions. 36

Class Zero's arrival and later victory over Shrek's elite students increased the Temple's public reputation. During the Star Luo competition, it was publicly presented as an organization capable of standing alongside Shrek Academy, the Tang Sect, and the Spirit Pagoda. 59 79

Mu Ye subsequently brought the Body Sect into the Temple, and smaller sects began joining in large numbers during Xie An's absence. 91 101

Xie An's Absence

When reports claimed Xie An had disappeared in a small world, the Holy Spirit Cult tested the Temple with escalating Evil Soul Master attacks. 101 Guan Yue acted as interim Temple Master, coordinating new sects, allocating resources, and dispatching assistance to attacked cities. 101

The crisis also encouraged Chen Xinjie, a former Temple Master, to consider reclaiming the office by exploiting the instability. 102 106

Defense of Tiandou City

During the Holy Spirit Cult's attack on Tiandou City, Temple member Mu Ye defended God Craftsman Zhen Hua until Xie An returned and killed the Dark Blood Demon. 105 107 108

Xie An discovered that someone had obstructed the Temple's intelligence channels, preventing it from responding normally to Tiandou's distress signal. 108

Abyss Campaign

Xie An revealed to Class Zero that the Temple's original purpose was to unite civilian power against the Abyss Plane, while the Blood God Legion held the front line. 112 He brought the students to the Legion for combat experience and began pursuing a permanent solution to the Abyss threat. 112 114

Following the destruction of Shrek City and the Tang Sect headquarters, Xie An ordered the Temple to conduct rescue efforts, designate the Holy Spirit Cult as the most dangerous organization, and place the Tang Sect under control. 125

The Temple later mobilized the continent's Limit Douluos for war against the Abyss Plane. 148 Its forces helped defend the Extreme North during the Blood River God-Slaying Array crisis, where Xie An confronted the Spirit Emperor and later defeated the God-Rank Demon Empress. 150 160
