Zoe turned her head. The enormous cannon muzzle embedded in the wall had begun to glow, specks of orange-yellow fire converging toward it from behind like streams of fire dragons.
The Candlelight Society priests soon noticed as well. They tried to rush the massive cannon, but this charge was nowhere near as smooth as the last.
More [Investigators] successfully broke through, but their offensive was entangled by the mechanical cultists.
Once an [Investigator] got close to a mechanical priest, the situation immediately turned into a one-sided slaughter.
But only if they could keep killing.
The mechanical priests' lines were layered one after another, densely packed across more than half the room.
No matter how powerful the [Investigators] were, they were still only individuals. They were practically squeezed into the middle.
And these mechanical priests were not so easy to kill.
The higher a priest's rank, the more modified limbs they had—and those were all made of steel.
Flesh was indeed weak and frail, but steel bodies could take a beating.
An [Investigator] could smash a mechanical body with one punch, sending sparks flying and rendering it immobile, but they could not smash steel out of existence.
Dead mechanical priests were sometimes even more troublesome than living ones. Especially as the crowd grew denser, the charging [Investigators] felt as though they had been wedged into a wall of steel.
Some of the more extreme mechanical priests even stuffed bombs into their bodies. They would explode upon death, and there was a particularly high proportion of extremists among the mechanical priests.
Thus, the [Investigators] suddenly realized that these ordinary people were not as easy to deal with as they had imagined.
They had been held back, but the massive cannon on the wall would not wait for them.
Soon, the cannon's hum
