Old Vance had been injured while carrying railroad tracks.

He and the other laborers had formed two lines. Working in pairs, they carried a pole on their shoulders, with the rail suspended beneath it by straps.

His partner lost his footing while walking and slipped.

Vance happened to be at the very end of the rail. It immediately toppled to one side, dragging him to the ground.

The moment Vance fell, he let out a piercing howl. Everyone hurried over and saw a terrifying sight:

He had fallen beside the foundation being laid for the platform, and a steel reinforcing bar had pierced in beneath his ribs and emerged from his back.

The laborers froze for a moment, then sorrow appeared on their faces.

They had come here together and all knew one another well. The injured man had been their friend.

And with injuries like that, there was no way he could be saved.

The safety officer standing nearby rushed over, had the others saw through the rebar, and carried Vance onto the train.

The doctor who arrived after hearing the news examined him for a long while, but had no good solution. He could only perform some basic hemostasis and wound cleaning.

The rebar had gone straight through him. Fortunately, it had not struck any vital organs and killed him on the spot, but with the medical conditions here, there was no way to treat it.

If they forcibly pulled the rebar out, it could easily damage his internal organs. Coupled with the inevitable massive bleeding from the open wound, he would surely die.

But leaving it in was no good either. Sooner or later, he would die from infection and complications.

The place was not far from town, and before long, Vance's wife and daughter both arrived.
