Frey's hand holding the envelope began to tremble.

Frey could read now. He had spent a great deal of effort secretly learning bit by bit from Rhine.

But now, he began to wonder whether he had learned something wrong.

What did it mean, a letter from the current pope to the former pope? The Candlelight Society had a new pope? And he had written to the former pope?

Most importantly, this letter had ended up in his hands?

Frey could no longer spare a thought for the box worth several hundred Leos. He did not know what the letter said, but it was definitely intelligence Castel needed.

After steadying his breathing, Frey put the envelope back into the box—he had to find a way to send this letter to Castel.

It was not exactly loyalty to Castel. He simply felt that returning this thing would surely earn him a hefty reward.

At the very least, it had to be worth more than this box.

Once he had the money... well, he could at least buy a few more copies of the Holy Scripture, so they would not have to crowd together and struggle to read the same one.

Or he could buy food, so they would not have to catch rats from the garbage heaps and roast them.
