The light of these candles could effectively protect people from Pollution's erosion. Combined with the Candlelight Society's reverence for candle flames, they carried an additional layer of religious significance.

Transcendents needed a certain degree of protection when reading forbidden knowledge, and Moon Candles were the most common means. It was said that the highest-grade Moon Candles could even dispel the Pollution accumulated within a Transcendent's body, but that was far beyond an ordinary nun like Lynn.
