Ji Yuechu's brows furrowed slightly upon hearing this. "When did that happen? Why have I never heard Yu Qing mention it?"
"After I left the Ancient Road."
Ning Chen said calmly, "There is no need for me to lie to you, Holy Lord. Moreover, I have enemies too numerous to count. Choosing me would not be a wise decision."
Ji Yuechu revealed a wistful expression. "I know something of your capabilities. It is a pity that you are already married; that truly comes as a surprise to me."
Looking at the Ji Family's Holy Lord before him, Ning Chen said, "Holy Lord, I have something to say, and I hope you will hear me out. In matters of marriage, the words of one's parents are certainly important, but Miss Ji's own wishes are ultimately what should be considered most. Such matters cannot be forced. I regard Miss Ji as a friend, and I believe she feels the same. With Miss Ji's beauty and character, she will surely meet her destined husband someday. But that person will not be me."
After hearing his words, a complicated look appeared in Ji Yuechu's eyes. It seemed this matter truly was impossible. He had held an excellent impression of this young man; it was truly too great a pity.
Now that he knew the answer, Ning Chen did not linger. Rising to his feet, he respectfully bowed and said, "Holy Lord, I have troubled you for far too long. Please forgive me. This junior shall take his leave first."
Ji Yuechu stood as well and sighed softly.
