Minato was assigned alongside Akaseki Uchiha and Ranwu under Jiraiya. During their bell test, he coordinated with both teammates, transformed from a thrown kunai at the decisive moment, and stole Jiraiya's bell; Jiraiya subsequently accepted all three as his squad. 17

He showed early concern for Kushina Uzumaki. After she was abducted by Kumogakure ninja, Minato followed the trail of red hair she had deliberately left behind and joined Akaseki in tracking the kidnappers. He defeated one captor with Wind Style: Gale Palm, helped secure the surviving enemy, and freed Kushina. 36 37 38

During Team 7's conflict with Kirigakure forces, Minato attempted to ambush Jinin Akebino and a Kaguya jonin alone. In the Chūnin Exams, Minato immediately challenged Karatachi Yagura after Shinnosuke Sarutobi's loss. Minato is considerate toward teammates.
