First Appearance Chapter 34

Background / History

Yaoye is the eldest princess of the Jia Ma Imperial Family and the granddaughter of Jia Xingtian, the family’s strongest member. Raised within the palace, she was taught to identify and recruit exceptional talent for the Imperial Family; this principle guided her first approach to Gu Fengchen after Jia Xingtian praised his potential. 34 70

She initially encountered Gu Fengchen in Qingshan Town while accompanying Jia Xingtian on an imperial autumn hunt. Impressed by his intervention on behalf of an elderly woman and by his cultivation, Yaoye introduced herself, invited him to join the Imperial Family, and—when he refused in favor of freedom—gave him Black Demon Bear Soft Armor as a welcoming gift. 34

As pressure from the Mulan and Luoyan Empires mounted, Wei Ling of the Mulan Empire sought to marry Yaoye as part of a political strategy against Jia Ma. Yaoye turned the proposal into a life-and-death spar: she would marry Wei Ling only if he defeated a rising talent of the Jia Ma Empire. Gu Fengchen’s victory and Wei Ling’s death prevented the marriage and made him a hero to the empire. 95 98

Appearance

Yaoye is a tall, coldly elegant beauty whose bearing reflects her imperial status. Her eyes are described as deep and changeable rather than gentle, carrying an inherent air of superiority. 34

  • Often wears formal palace gowns or richly embroidered dresses befitting the Imperial Eldest Princess. 80 93 120
  • Has long, lustrous dark hair and a delicate oval face. 34 98
  • Her usual cool, reserved presentation softens noticeably around Gu Fengchen. 172 176
  • At the Desert City front, she wears military attire and ties her hair into a ponytail for inspections and command. 226

Personality

Yaoye is frank, politically astute, and highly attentive to talent. Rather than forcing Gu Fengchen into service after his refusal, she chose to cultivate a gradual relationship with him; later, she repeatedly sought to secure his loyalty to herself and the Imperial Family. 34 70 87 101

Her royal composure conceals substantial loneliness and anxiety. She fears being left to manage the Jia Ma Empire alone after Jia Xingtian’s death, believing that her younger sister Yaoyue cannot share that burden. She confides these concerns to Gu Fengchen, asking for personal loyalty rather than merely loyalty to the Imperial Family. 101

As a commander, Yaoye is resolute and analytical under pressure. She inspects exhausted defenders personally, studies enemy capabilities, adapts to changing conditions, and remains calm when the Snake People Tribe floods Desert City’s gate with troops. 200 226 227 289
