Innate Soul Power: 7.5 2 Retrospectively identified as the same innate talent possessed by Dugu Yan.
Level 91 Titled Douluo 2 51 Already a newly advanced Titled Douluo at the story’s opening. His breakthrough is attributed to ruthlessness and fortunate opportunities; his original level is later recalled as 91.
Level 92, approaching Level 93; Soul Core condensed 17 18 Completes five days of seclusion using Gu Ci’s Soul Core Method. His aura becomes at least 30% stronger, and the core completely suppresses his poison backlash.
Level 94 Titled Douluo; Jade Scale Flood Dragon 18 Consumes the larger Sweet Potato Golden Dragon. Its resonance with Dugu Yan’s paired herb, combined with his Soul Core, evolves his Martial Soul. He believes he can now hold his own against a Level 95 opponent.
Level 95 Titled Douluo 45 52 First revealed through the pressure that drives She Long away. Later confirmed by Gu Ci and Spirit Hall’s reports; the precise breakthrough process is not shown.

Background / History

Dugu Bo grew up alongside Gu Ci’s grandfather, who died covering his retreat in battle. His protection subsequently became the decisive support behind the Gu family’s rise to marquis status. Gu Xiao addresses him as “Foster Father,” while Gu Ci calls him “Grandpa Dugu” 1 2.

His Jade Scale Snake Martial Soul poisoned its own wielder. Reaching Titled Douluo allowed him to survive, but did not remove the accumulated venom. His son, Dugu Xin, died from this backlash, and his daughter-in-law also died from Jade Phosphor Snake Venom. Dugu Bo initially concealed the cause of his son’s death, claiming that Xin had died fighting an opponent 4.

He maintained an herb garden at the Ice and Fire Dual Pools for decades without understanding most of its plants. Attempts to consume some herbs had poisoned him or nearly made him explode, leaving him reluctant to experiment further 7 8.

Golden Crocodile Douluo presided over Dugu Bo’s Titled Douluo investiture. This acquaintance with Spirit Hall’s Worship Hall later informed his warnings that even his protection would be insufficient if its senior experts targeted Gu Ci and Dugu Yan 25.

Appearance

  • Build and posture: Initially thin and gaunt; after condensing his Soul Core, stands upright “as a pine” 7 17.
  • Clothing: Frequently wears a dark green robe and stands with his hands clasped behind his back 15 64.
  • Eyes: Snake-like pupils with a sharp, threatening gaze 17 64.
  • Hair: Described as dark green in several scenes. A later passage describes gray hair gaining black strands after his recovery 17 53 63.
  • Rejuvenation: A year after receiving the Soul Core Method and immortal herb, his improved complexion makes him appear at least ten years younger 53.

Personality

Dugu Bo is fiercely protective of his family. Dugu Yan’s safety takes priority even when a cure for his own condition becomes possible. He extends that devotion to Gu Ci, accepting him as family and eventually referring to him as his grandson 5 18 84.

His reputation for ruthlessness contrasts with his tenderness toward the children. He comforts Dugu Yan, carries her while she sleeps, and personally tends Gu Ci’s battlefield wounds. His old friends associate “Old Poison” with lethal methods, but their immediate willingness to help also reflects longstanding loyalty 18 32 68.

He values discipline over talent and warns Gu Ci against arrogance. Despite his experience, he readily admits his ignorance of immortal herbs and accepts the boy’s expertise. His trust develops into a willingness to follow Gu Ci’s strategic advice and treat him as an equal 4 7 41 85.

He also recognizes his limits. He refuses to bring Dugu Yan on an expedition where he cannot protect both children, avoids provoking Spirit Hall through an unnecessary assassination, and acknowledges that Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s fusion skill could defeat him 39 52 53.
