Background / History

Wukong was originally the Crimson Flame Demon Lord, a Devil Race cultivator from the Demon Abyss. Unlike the bloodthirsty image associated with his race, he accepted imprisonment beneath the Heavy Mountain Path after a wager with Green Mountain Ancestor. 171

While imprisoned, the Demon Lord reaches enlightenment after Lin Chen asks him three questions. He transforms into a true spirit, names himself Wukong, and kneels before Lin Chen to request acceptance as his disciple. 73

After arriving at Green Mountain Sect, Wukong openly expounds the Dao for more than a month. His teachings resolve disciples' cultivation obstacles and draw audiences that include the sect elders and Sect Leader; despite not having recovered his cultivation, the sect comes to address him respectfully as Master Wukong. 77 80

He later reveals that he crippled his cultivation so he could stay by Lin Chen's side. Wukong regards Lin Chen as a possible reincarnation of an ancient powerhouse and believes that restoring his own strength is tied to a deeper, inescapable karmic bond. 151 171 191

Appearance

Wukong usually appears as a small old man. Even before recovering his cultivation, he carries an otherworldly presence that makes him conspicuous among ordinary cultivators. 80

  • Originally known as the Crimson Flame Demon Lord. 73
  • Can assume the identity and appearance of others through soul-based methods, including the Thunder Mountain Sect elder Qin Wushuang. 204
  • His fully unleashed true spirit manifests as an enormous blood-red giant figure with luminous blood-colored eyes. 160
  • During one documented battle, he wears black robes and is addressed as Grandmaster Wukong. 190

Personality

Wukong is unfailingly deferential toward Lin Chen, consistently addressing him as “Master” and carrying out his orders without hesitation. His protectiveness is not merely formal: he repeatedly prioritizes Lin Chen's safety over his own cultivation, reputation, and life. 155 191 225

This obedience does not extend to others. Wukong retains the Crimson Flame Demon Lord's proud, wild, and unyielding temperament, readily humiliating enemies and acting with open arrogance when confronting those he considers unworthy. 212

He is also contemplative and learned. His Dao exposition brings enlightenment to Green Mountain Sect cultivators, while his understanding of reincarnation, soul techniques, and the wider cultivation world often guides Lin Chen. 77 151 202

  • Battles Blood Demon and another hidden enemy in the void to create an escape opportunity for Lin Chen. 225 226
