Background
Principal Yin presides over Lingshan Martial Arts No.1 High School and initially opposes Li Yuan's claim to the school’s Youth Martial Tournament qualification. When Li refuses to yield the spot to Jin Fan, Yin proposes either an internal selection match or cancelling the school’s participation altogether. His leadership subsequently considers giving Li a poor evaluation and dismissing him. 1 2
Li’s exceptional Open Class performance complicates Yin’s plan to remove him. After being warned by education-department leader Zeng Chang about the school’s poor teaching standards and a forthcoming provincial inspection, Yin acknowledges that Li cannot be dismissed easily; nonetheless, the leadership permits Li to compete with Jin Fan while still contemplating firing him afterward. 12
Li’s victories over Gu Yu and success in the Youth Martial Tournament severely undermine Yin’s assessment of him. Yin had previously judged Li’s potential as limited and regarded Jin Fan and Gu Yu as the school’s more promising martial artists. 28 61 71
As Li rises through the school administration, Yin repeatedly tries to curb his influence. He makes Li’s match with Gu Yu a compulsory “teaching assignment,” threatens a lowered teaching rating for refusal, and later opposes Li’s intensive training arrangements for graduating students. 71 216 Li’s teaching reforms, official recognition, and the school’s improved examination results further weaken Yin’s authority. 121 157 219
Personality
Principal Yin is highly conscious of institutional reputation, hierarchy, and control. He regards Li’s refusal to accept leadership decisions as insubordination, even when Li’s teaching performance is strong. His early judgment centers on Li’s perceived lack of martial potential, while he places greater faith in Jin Fan and Gu Yu because of their talent and status. 12 28 71
He uses administrative pressure rather than open confrontation: withholding bonuses, threatening ratings, assigning politically motivated teaching tasks, and attempting to make Li bear responsibility for poor student results. 28 71 217
Despite his forceful manner, Yin becomes increasingly uneasy as Li accumulates victories, public support, merit, and authority. After Jin Fan is severely injured at the Stone Peak River conference rather than Li, Yin reacts with shock and fear over the consequences. 175
