Awakening

A Martial Soul awakens when a person reaches six years old. Those whose awakened Martial Soul is accompanied by Soul Power may cultivate as Soul Masters. The quality and nature of the Martial Soul heavily influence their future potential. 3 4

Classification

Martial Souls may also be classified by combat function, including control, assault, agility, support, food, defense, healing, and pure agility types. 10

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are attached to Martial Souls to advance a Soul Master's cultivation and grant Soul Skills. Soul beasts of a compatible type are generally preferred, since matching attributes can better develop a Martial Soul's potential. 9 33

• Lin Yu's first ring came from a 580-year Death Demon Spider, exceeding the usual first-ring limit and raising him to level 13. 10
• His resulting first Soul Skill, Death Slash, inflicts continuous slashes carrying a death aura; its wounds cause dizziness and continuous bleeding until dispelled, while increasing attack power by 30%. 10

Exceptional Configurations

Twin Martial Souls

Twin Martial Soul possessors have two Martial Souls, but ordinarily cannot use both simultaneously. They also face physical backlash from the accumulated attributes and Soul Rings of cultivating both souls. 9 24 168

• Bibi Dong developed a method to cultivate both Martial Souls by distributing the burden of their accumulated attributes. 24
• The usual strategy is to complete the first Martial Soul's rings before cultivating the second, allowing rapid advancement at the Titled Douluo stage. Prematurely adding rings to the second soul burdens the body and limits later ring quality. 245
• Bibi Dong ultimately fused her Death Spider Emperor and Soul Devouring Spider Emperor into the god-level Martial Soul Death. Its Soul Rings remained independent after the fusion. 24 25

Lin Yu's Dual-Form Martial Soul

Lin Yu's Undying Emperor Spider and unnamed light-based second Martial Soul differ from ordinary Twin Martial Souls. Bibi Dong considers them closer to two forms of one Martial Soul. 5 9

Martial Soul Manifestation Without Possession

Beast Martial Souls normally require possession, but Lin Yu can manifest the Undying Emperor Spider as an independent entity behind him and have it use Soul Skills directly. 10

Martial Soul Evolution

Martial Souls can evolve through extraordinary resources or special circumstances, often improving their form, abilities, or cultivation ceiling. 21 185 186

Soul Blood

Soul Blood is the essence of a Martial Soul: a nonphysical fragment of the soul-derived manifestation rather than ordinary blood. 25

• Martial Souls do not normally bleed. 24
• Bibi Dong states that Soul Blood could be drawn because her Martial Souls had a special connection with Lin Yu's. 24
• Losing one drop leaves the donor weakened temporarily but does not cause lasting harm. 25
