"Senior, th-this is a misunderstanding." The people from the Demon Realm immediately trembled in terror and hurriedly spoke.
Though they all came from the Demon Realm, they had long heard of Equal to Heaven's ways. If he took a dislike to you, he needed no reason at all to kill you.
Yet even as these people retreated, Chen Fan, Equal to Heaven, and the cultivators kneeling before them showed no reaction whatsoever, like statues. Had Equal to Heaven's gaze not swept over them earlier, they would have nearly believed they truly were looking at statues.
Before long, someone sensed that something was amiss. He looked suspiciously at Chen Fan, then warily at Equal to Heaven.
"Senior, this man killed dozens from our Demon Realm. We came to settle accounts with him, nothing more," one cultivator said.
Yet the only response was his own echo. Equal to Heaven did not move, still seated there.
"If Senior has no objection, we will kill him and leave, never to set foot in Water Curtain Cave again," a cultivator said, forcing himself to be bold.
But there was still no response. They began to stir restlessly.
"Perhaps it will be safe if we kill him from here with an art," someone suggested, wanting to strike Chen Fan down from the greatest possible distance.
It was a fine idea—but who would make the first move?
Everyone looked at one another. Equal to Heaven was sitting there watching them, and they could not tell whether he was dead or alive. If they acted rashly, they might very well bring a fatal calamity upon themselves.
While these people hesitated, Chen Fan remained immersed in his state of enlightenment. Yet their arrival had slightly jolted him awake from that mysterious state, immediately weakening the effects of his cultivation
