Qin Xian'er grew up alongside Mu Yunshui as her junior sister in the Immortal Sect. Her mother, a woman of Qin Clan descent, was the biological partner of Immortal Sect Master He Cangfeng. After suffering a cultivation backlash, Qin Xian'er's mother divided her remaining cultivation between Qin Xian'er and Mu Yunshui before falling into a long slumber; this gave both women rapid cultivation progress and enduring youth. She later learns that her mother may not have died as believed. By the time she encounters Chen Fan, Qin Xian'er has become the new Sect Master of the Earth Ghost Sect.
